Anyway, I have really come to dislike Jim Carrey. A LOT. He is not an actor. He fails to fit the criteria. He always pulls the exact same personality every single time. That's not acting. Acting is to be able to pretend you are other personalities. This is far from acting. He's energetic, but he doesn't really "act", strictly-speaking.

Have I yet mentioned enough times that he really can't actually "act"?

Then you probably haven't seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, because he does act in there. And pretty fucking good, too.

Not saying he hasn't been in mostly shit, but he can definately act when under the proper direction.

Well I can't argue for that reason alone. But he's been terrific in the past. Interview with a vampire, Top Gun, Collateral, The Last Samurai, Valkyrie, Eyes Wide Shut... All very different roles but he is great in all of them.

Of that list, I'll grant you Top Gun, Interview with a Vampire, and Last Samurai, the rest were absolute crap if you ask me.

I will admit, though, I don't like Tommy as a person in general, so that does bias me towards disliking his acting.

Broken Arrow is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen...made even funnier by the fact that it's not supposed to be funny.

You're only including a few of those elements for each of the movies. Please explain to me how ALL of those films fit your rather specific formula. What's more, he has fairly a different personality in each of those films. Heck, in Face Off and Adaptation he plays two different characters (sort of) in each movie. It sounds more like you're just trying to shoehorn those films in to meet your own preconceived notions. I'll give you the slightly eccentric bit, as he does tend to have eccentricities in most films he plays in. However, given that those eccentricities and the way they're portrayed vary significantly from character to character, it's not as though that's the most damning thing that could be said about an actor.

Sorry, you can't expect me to take the time to do anything you're accusing me of being bias about; that's rather self defeating waste of time. You like him, I don't and gave reasons. You disagree, now we can move on with our lives.

It would probably be easier to just say "his characters in those films don't all fit that narrow formula", which would be an accurate statement.

If that's really the interpretation you are gathering from my response, so be it. Your accusations of my bias color your conclusions beyond reproach; I am incapable of demonstrating my position to you without fallacy given the inferred premise. Sorry Nic, but being quirky and odd doesn't make you interesting/competent. Too bad he plays the exact opposite H.I. McDunnough in all of his latest movies. That is to say he plays a smug, globe-trotting know-it-all. I've even gotten to calling his movies "Nicolas Cage Knows Everything" movies.
