Shia Labeouf. Takes himself way more seriously than he should for a former disney kid.

Also Gerard Butler. And he knows it judging by the shit ton of crappy movies hes been in since 300.

Sam Worthington, Vin Diesel and (of course) Nicholas Cage.

Sam Worthington is just utter shite, while the other 2 play the same bland roles in every single film they do.

However, it's clear you can't make a sound argument in this case, because a psychopathic hedonist who did little more than murder people and then die obviously doesn't match up to a few of those things on your list, thus falsifying the application of said list to all of Cage's roles (and that's just one character from Face Off).
A character he portrayed for a few minutes on screen? Sure...

Eccentric? He's a hedonist.
Emotionally distant? Clearly overcompensating with emotional detachment toward his fellow man.
Assorted past? Sort of a requirement for psychopaths.
Coincidentally roped? He had to "die" (not really) to assume the alternate role.
Noble Pursuit? He continually insured the well being of his brother.
Well being of supporting characters? Look above.
Learns just as much? He uncovered the entire plot from the "hero".

Speaking of the "hero"...

Eccentric? Obsessive compulsive disorder.
Emotionally distant? He's wearing the face of his enemy after all; watch any scene.
Assorted past? His son was killed.
Coincidentally roped? He did "kill" (not actually) the only guy who was capable of tricking the only other guy into giving away the location of the bomb.
Noble Pursuit? He was after the bomb.
Well being of supporting characters? He saved his nemesis son.
Learns just as much? That even family is important to bad guys.

Oh look, he played 2 characters in the film, one which only had a few minutes of screen time and I *still* applied the same formula to both of them. But hey, you still like him, and that's OK. But I'm done illustrating my point to you; he's formulaic and typed, period.
Hey, good job trying to shove him into that role, but you're not doing a good job. There was no " unlikely tutelage" involved there. That was a key element mentioned that you just dropped. Nice going. Also, you said "mildly eccentric", Caster is extremely eccentric. There's a huge difference there. He learned no lessons from the supporting characters he has under his wing. Of course he uncovers information, but I wouldn't think you'd make such a stupid point in your initial comment as to imply one is type-cast because they discover information throughout the course of the story (which is almost every character ever). You also implied that he learned from the character who he was teaching. Never happened. What's most hilarious is that you're trying to argue that two opposing characters fit the exact same mold, even though they're both delivered in a completely different manner. I'd say I'm done pointing out how badly formed your perspective is, but you'll probably make another terrible rebuttal and keep this ball rolling. Remember, we've also got his entire IMDB page to work from.

Why did this turn into a thread debating on the merits or lack thereof of Nicolas Cage? I look forward to any Nicolas Cage movie, because I know that I'll either enjoy the film or I'll have fun tearing apart with my friends afterwards.

I'm going to go with someone no one else has said yet: John Travolta.

He's got such a smug, punchable expression in EVERY goddamned role he's ever played, and he has the emotional range of a broken kettle.

Actually, he has been mentioned.

I have to go with Shia LaBeouf. Mainly because he was so bad in the Transformers movies, but also in the Indiana Jones and the Cyrstal Skull movie. I mean, just looking at his IMDb, its like every movie he has been in he didn't act well in! It's quite sad when I think about it.

Still hard to believe this guy is meant to be Darth Fucking Vader.

Uh, nevermind! II forgot all about Anakin...<_<.

Ugh, I don't even want to think about it. I still like the movie but....UGH! He has no acting talent!

I'm going to go with Daniel Radcliffe, as the worst actor. He's got progressively better over the years, admittedly, but there's this air of pretentiousness about him that annoys me, and I find it distracts me from the roles he plays.

Actress, like most of this thread, I'm going to say Kristen Stewart. I've been ninja'd on this one, for sure.

Sylvester Stallone? Sylvester Stallone. Also, I don't like Shia LaBeouf.
And that guy who played Anakin. I don't even know his name but I just hate him for ruining Vader for me.

Shit, really? Goddammit, I've got to find someone else that hasn't been used.

Hmmm...Adam Sandler's been used...Will Farrell has been used...

Can I nominate the entire cast of a movie? Because then without a doubt it would be the people in American Pie. They're not funny, they're not heartwarming, they're just dickheads, the whole lot of them.

Hayden Christensen. R2D2 has more depth than his characters.

As for some others people have mentioned, Nick Cage may have played a lot of similar characters but he also haves a lot of very good standouts. I really liked him in Lord of War.
Jim Carrey may play the same over energetic nutjob over and over again but he can actually act when he gets cast in a role that requires it. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is the film to watch.
Jack Black also has a particular style that shows often but he always manages to disappear into a role and play it really well. He was great in King Kong and High Fidelity.

Kristen Stewart is the female version of Keanu Reeves but in roles where it isn't suitable. At least Keanu had that going for him.

WILL FERREL! YOU DAMN, DIRTY APE! The only good movie I've seen with Will Ferrell was "The Other Guys" and that wasn't even thanks to him.

The Bad Lieutenant came out in 2009, oh smug one. He was also good in Kick Ass, which was a 2010 release (though that character lacked the same depth).
Ah, but I clearly said that I didn't know about that title, oh illiterate one =p

But anyway, I'm just not a fan of his acting of late. It's always the same character, this character being a person that I just don't like. He makes a decent bad guy, though.
Ah, but clearly you said he hasn't been in a good movie in over a decade, oh chronologically challenged one. You not knowing about it doesn't make your statement any less inaccurate, it just shows that you're also too lazy to do fact checking. I couldn't care less if you haven't heard of it, nor does my pointing out your error somehow translate to illiteracy just because you vocalized your own ignorance.

I would agree, however, that he's played in only a few good movies in recent years. He's still a fine actor though (and I don't even like him that much). I just think he sort of stopped giving a crap and needed to pay off his ridiculous back taxes.

I think The Other Guys was actually pretty bad/mediocre. Nothing really funny or remarkable about it. It was sort of just there. I still like a handful of Will Ferrel movies though.

Get out of here. Brad Pitt is awesome.

Se7en, Curious case of Benjamin Button, Fight Club, just to name a few...
Moneyball, The Tree of Life, 12 Monkeys, the man has serious acting chops.

calling Tommy Weieau a "B-movie actor" is like calling The Room a genious art film

its pushing it

Tommy Weiseu is a bizare entity of his own,

also "B-movie" is a few steps above "obscure indie flcik youve never heard of" like...

Adam Sandler.

There are many, many things that annoy me about movies and actors in this day and age. But none irritate me nearly as much as when an actor is deliberately trying to be funny, and he simply isn't - not by any stretch of the imagination of a sane mind. Adam is the epitome of that.

Two of the worst notable Hollywood actors today are Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, coincidentally both main characters in the Twilight films. Aside from being mainly famous for starring in that car crash of a narrative, they're just so bland and can't even emote.

Arnold Schwarzenegger. The reason why he's so entertaining and funny in his films and just how quotable he is isn't because he's by any means a good actor.

Michael Cera. I don't know whether or not he's particularly a bad actor per se, but I just find him annoying, can't understand why he's so popular, and he's part of the reason why I didn't like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Is it weird how much I don't like him in the role, yet can't imagine a different actor doing it? I do quite like the movie (albeit it could have split into two parts to fully flesh out the books but whatevs)

you're right, that's really insulting the monument of a man that is The Wiseau.
