I'm pretty damn sure that I've just gone through something that makes Chrysalids, Mutons and Leader Sectoids pale in comparison. I was on top of the world, I managed to rescue a VIP with rookies, starting to make major leaps in my base outline, get quite a few satellites in the air to increase my income, research new armor types, build some shivs and then...it all went wrong. I started a terror mission and managed to kill the first Chrysalid, but when want to kill a civilian, it glitched out and I had to restart the game...that's when I realized Enemy Unknown doesn't have an auto-save system and all of the stuff I mentioned eariler just got flushed down the toilet...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

Yes, it does have an auto save system.

For some reason it's not turned on by default though. Always check the options first when starting a new game!

It does have an auto-save system...you know, that arguably makes this whole mess even worse.

If you have the self-discipline, I highly recommend playing "Iron Man", and leaving saves enabled but just never using them. The game is pretty buggy right now, and as you've discovered losing everything due to a glitch sucks.

Or maybe you weren't playing iron man, I dunno. You should though! Makes everything MUCH more tense.

I have to echo this statement. Ironman should be on by default, it just makes the game so much more intense knowing there's no going back and that everything has proper consequences.

I'm getting flashbacks of TFTD. The PSX version had a glitch that would commonly corrupt the save files. The saves took an entire memory card too.

Not played the new one yet, but I've heard good things. I think I'll pick it up around Christmas time.

The first Chrysalid I encountered immediately killed my strongest dude and turned him into a space zombie. And then I, too, realized I hadn't saved in a while.

I'm probably gonna start a new game anyway. This game throws a lot of management responsibilities at you, and they seriously blind sided me during my first playthrough.

Damn good game though!

That... sucks, hardcore. I've gotten a decent way in without encountering any major glitches (on the PS3 version), but I think I'm gonna start from scratch with Ironman mode on. I'm kind of reload happy right now. It's just because I don't play strategy games very often, and every time I make a move that goes wrong, I'm like 'Oh, wait! I know what I could have done to make that go better!' and reload.

Although, that said, I do encounter this weird error message every once in a while where, when trying to load a save, it informs me that it could not load the save, and that it might be corrupt. But trying to reload the same save always works. Nothing game-breaking, or really infuriating, but kind of confusing, all the same.

Not sure honestly. I had no problem with Chrysalids as id fought them in the original, and haven't found any glitches.

Oh right, the chain reaction panic. Soldier A shot a muton, he used intimidate, panicked Soldier B who shot Soldier A who then panicked and shot Soldier C who panicked and shot soldier D who panicked and killed soldier A, the only soldier with med kits left. And yet, soldier B was the only one who survived that mission.

Odd, my rookies seem to get BETTER when they panic. They rarely miss and they even get a few criticals. The glitch was weird too, the thing just stopped right in front of the civilian and just stood there. A nearby Chrysalid still had its idle movements working just fine though... it was weird.
