I've been looking at some threads about people being dissapointed with follow up to games and most of the people seem to say the same thing that, the original was always better.

I believe this is due to the first wow factor of a game of a new franchise, think about it. Halo:CE is regarded by many as a better game than halo 3, mainly due to the franchise not really adding much to the game to mix things up, much similar to the gears of war franchise, fable franchise and the legend of zelda games to name a few.
So i'm challenging the escapist to try and come up with games that were better than the original, purely by changing up the gameplay, not just by making the new games "expansions" with better graphics.

Also do you believe that this factor is important with new games, like little big planet, mirrors edge and portal that all had unique points to them which no other game had.

Uhm, if you mean like they did to Fallout 2 --> Fallout 3, with revamping the whole system and all that? Problem is you will get fans of both the old and the new system when such changes are made, and therefore you won't usually get a one-sided 'YAY' from everyone.

One of the reasons it's hard to decide if such a game, that has had it's gameplay drastically changed, is better than it's prequel.

Unless I misunderstood you?

Oh, and before anyone flame me: I liked both the original Fallouts and fallout 3, but for different reasons.

Half-Life -> Half-Life 2
Alien vs Predator -> Alien vs Predator 2
Warcraft -> Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne (Each one was an improvement)
Diablo -> Diablo 2
Battlefield 2 -> Battlefield 2142 (Ok, it might not be a traditional but I count it as the next game.)
Call of Duty -> Call of duty 4(Pick any of the previous ones and compare it to 4 and 4 is better in every single way.)

Those are the ones I can think up of right now.

I'd agree with that although I never played original half life or warcraft

Spiderman 2. Saints Row 2. Half-Life 2. The process only applies to some,but not all.

There is no such game called God of War 4. There are 1-2 and then the prequel, Chains of Olympus.

I think he was using "4" to replace "for". Look at the writing style.

Yes. Those three letters that he skipped saved his life in fact. He would have been killed by a coordinated Ion Cannon strike if he'd taken the 1.2 seconds required to type the full word out.

Then the guy firing the Ion cannon is fired! I can't have bad shots in my army!
