the zombie apicalypse......

Over the years the zombie apocalypse has become a popular end of the world possibility to the point a lot of people have a plan in case it ACTUALLY happens (it may just be for fun or a proper precautionary plan but, either way, they HAVE a plan).

Thing is, if the zombie apocalypse was to happen, what do you think would cause it?
Could it be a virus the reanimates dead cell, al la Resident Evil?
When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth, a la Dawn of the Dead?
A different virus that makes people become like zombies but not proper zombies but still get put under that umbrella, a la 28 Days Later?

If it were to happen, it would probably be the zombie-like situation BUT there could be some undiscovered species that crawls into a body and links into the hosts central nervous system and takes control of the body. they secrete a toxin that greatly slows decomposition. without a host, they are easily killed so the host also protects them. because of this, they kill other people which their offspring takes control off.

in the sequel, they are keeping people hostage so they have an endless supply of hosts to...sorry got a bit side tracked!

what do you think will cause the zombie apocalypse?

An act of God. Or, someone would have to artificially engineer a zombie vector, make it easily spreadable in the population, and have it really turn people to crap. But it'd be easy to contain unless the vector gave the infected some sort of advantage against normal humans, like the rage virus.

Zombie apocalypse never mad sense to me because
1. zombies are reanimated dead, but now the excuse is a virus that sends them into rage and and kill others
2. true zombies are slow and dumb
3. In movies one person kills several zombies so how does the zombie thing spread so far. In the beginning after zombies come to life, there should be a lot of people capable of killing them off. Police seem absent until the city is overrun and too many people in america own weapons for me to believe this shit...wtf? also we know too much about zombies but in every zombie medium they dont really acknowledge we do and people "discover" that shooting them in the head works.

I hate zombies. Theyre are cheap bullshit excuse for enemies(evident in games)/monsters(movies) and I hate that they are "in" right now more than ever.

EDIT: The only way I can see it starting is a virus of some sort (but then they're not really zombies, they're just infected people with a virus that makes them zombie-like) that is completely undetectable, insanely easy to spread and doesn't take any effect for a long period of time. Most of the earths population will be infected without anyone even knowing, and all of sudden - "zombies" everywhere! But even then, they'd all die eventually. The only question is whether or not they'd finish off the human race before that happens.

stage 2: lock my self securely inside my house and remove anything valuable from my house, so that i will be safe from the elements and i wont get any random survivor trying to kill me for my bean supply
stage 3: turn into zombie

well done you have successfully survived the zombie apocalypse and you didnt even need to go through all the time and effort running round malls with improvised weapons trying to find food, or living like a tramp, or trying not to be eaten alive

The traditional zombie doesn't work with real science, the closet thing would maybe be the rage virus, but even then they are just super aggressive thoughtless people. Not something that should take out a population because they are going to take damage from recklessness and can bleed out/ die from a multitude of reasons. And assuming they don't have the go seek out nourishment drive they would die off from starvation and dehydration very quickly.

I think something like the Crossed or a Black Gas infection would be the most likely to cause an apocalypse. A situation where you have violent infected humans with no empathy or remorse but all of their intelligence and cunning. Able to use weapons, vehicles and tools. Probably able to breed. Yeah, seconded. Also, there's no virus which inevitably kills you within an hour of being bitten by a carrier, let alone turns you into a perpetual motion machine.

Zombies need magic to work, really. But if you give them magic, you can give them magicians with intelligence to organise them into something scary, and magic doesn't hurt either. You still need masses of intelligent zombies unless you plan to piss the enemy off by clearing minefields at them.

A bioweapon of some kind if the zombies are still living people (rage virus, et cetera), a parasite if they're not. Either way they wouldn't really be classic zombies... but would require similar survival tactics, so my plan remains.

...and I can't help but read "APICALYPSE" in the thread title as "A-Pickle-ypse", which makes me envision an anthropomorphic zombie pickle.

I'd the say the most likely option is some form of parasite. I can't quite remember what it was called, but I'm pretty sure there's some parasites in the animal kingdom that have zombie esque effects, and there's certainly ones capable of adjusting the victims behaviour and biology.

That, or it would be some form of virus that effects the brain in some way. Zombieland briefly mentioned a swollen brain, I'm not sure whether that's possible but if it is, it'd almost certainly cause some kind of madness before death. Max brooks' solanum virus has an interesting point, that it effectively lobotomises the victim, destroying what made them, them. If some kind of violence-inducing effect was added, a zombie is a possibility, I should think.

I think it would be some type of parasite more than something like a T-virus or something. A parasite's main goal is reproduction which would be a good excuse for the whole flesh eating thing spreading from host to host. There was an anime i watched recently called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni which has a neat back plot to a parasite contolling human thought or something its a lil fucking wierd though but still a good show.

Even if there were to be an ACTUAL zombie apocalypse unless it simulatneously infected more than a billion people it would be quashed in no time, but still I'll keep my fingers crossed
