Yep, I just want to raise some awareness that not only the Fighting is Magic [which is now called "Them?s Fightin? Herds", strange title I will admit] is still in making, but the developers, Mane6, have plans to start a crowdfunding through Indiegogo.

Below are some photos of the two fully developed characters which will represent hopefully a small part of the final quality of the game:

Well, Arizona [the cow] is somehow AppleJack in disguise. The only thing left is which character will represent Pinkie Pie. My guess is the alpaca. Also there is a unicorn, but it is clear the unicorn is a gameplay-style clone of Twilight Sparkle.

That why it is NOT about MLP. It is is own thing. A spiritual successor if you will.
I don't hear complains with the Mighty No 9 game.
Also the Mane6 will have at first 6 character in the main roster: The same number as the main MLP characters. I think is much closer to the material than we expected. Just imagine AppleJack as a cow and Rarity as a majestic deer.

Wasn't the general idea that they just go ahead and make the game with their own characters then after release if someone decides to mod in the original show characters they wouldn't be entirely outraged by the situation?

Wait, a 2D Fighting game which can use mods? I never hear about that [well, except Mugen I guess].
So in other words, maybe "someone" can use the sprites of their previous attempt to emulate the characters of MLP show?
How can it be work?

Imagine a Street Fighter game where a third of the cast is basically just a re-skin of Ryu. ...Actually, that's most of them after Street Fighter II, lol. At least they seem to be trying to curb that bad habit some in Street Fighter V so far.

On topic, big props to these guys for keeping their dream alive even after the cold, unfeeling hammer of copyright law came down to try and snuff them out. Honestly, it's probably better for the overall product that it happened though. There's so much more you can do with original characters than trying to force other peoples' characters to fit into your thing. Lots more freedom to work and experiment.

Its just not the same. Random cartoon cows fighting magical ice deer just doesn't do anything for me. I need Shining Armor and Twilight finally burrying the hatchet about that one time Twilight ratted Shining out to his parents for getting to 2nd base with Cadence by literally burrying a hatchet into one another's face!

I wanna see Discord and Luna battle it out, and the CMCs as a tag-team try to take on all the pets of Ponyville.

Lacking that, its just a silly little NewGrounds style fighting game with some unnesessary good character design...

I don't know, but as I said I guess is the Alpaca. I don't see the Alpaca represent Flattershy and Rainbow Dash.

While I appreciate that they went with the OC (especially when Fasut herself started to backed them up) route than to give up on everything they had built when Hasbro give them the lawsuit but it feels like it is missing something. Also I find the music doesn't suit the gameplay for some reason. Maybe I just need to read some lore of it to have a justfication for them to fight each other.

I mean look at Skullgirls, a new fighting franchise that has great characters, lore, character themes etc and the combat is great.

EDIT- Ok I will admit now that the game is starting to warm me up but at the moment, it still feel kinda small despite adding in that lobby.

All I can say is that the beta they released for Fighting is Magic played pretty damn well as a fighting game regardless of its MLP angle, and thus I'll follow its development. Sure, a fighting game centered around farmyard animals is even more niché than one with an MLP cast, but it should be left to stand on its own merits.

Shame we won't even see our favorite ponies beat the crap out of oneanother, though. Communication with one's fists (hooves?) is another form of expressing friendship, right? Works for Ryu and Ken...

Oh, that why there is a video in which they show the animals talking before they fight. They exchange insults I guess before they beat the sh*t of each other?

So.....if we want to create a story base of this title is.........which is the best race of animals and to decided this they fight for it because each race insult the other opposite races?

A wild guess really...but might be right on this one.

Jeez the reactions in this thread are kinda of a downer, I mean yeah the idea of MLP characters bashing each other senseless was kinda neat but lets face it this is a fighting game we're talking about, after a while all visual elements would be ignored and the only thing that'd remain is the tier lists and Top 8's.

I'm just glad that even though Hasbro sent an I-Cease-and-Desist-BM to these guys fan project that they were able to pick up the scraps and bounce on back, even better now that they have original characters to fill the slots. The MLP visual stye always seemed like a gimmick and possible restriction to me because it meant they had to stick to a certain criteria of characterization lest they risk going out of bounds with the show, and when I was playing the demo builds I honestly glossed over the MLP look after a while, didn't completely ignore it but was just like "yep these are everypony's fave characters in a fighting game, but these mechanics tho!"

So yeah, pretty stocked for this, hope I can get a decent enough paycheck to back it later in the month, but yeah, good on Mane 6 inc. for bouncing back.

I'm very into fighting games and I watched all of season 1 and 2 of mlp but can't seem to face it any more. I'd have liked to have given it a go if it were the actual characters but I don't like the look of these designs, they have none of the cuteness of the ponies. Sorry to shit on this game with everyone else but I just can't get behind this idea.
