There can be only one : a Highlander Thread

I would like to start out by saying that I blame the Spoony one and The Spoony experiment website from bringing Highlander back into my mind.

I love the Highlander series and I can't explain why. Being a fan of Highlander is kind of like being repeatedly punched in the gut by someone as they smile and tell you that they love you. and as of right now Highlander has had many more downs and few ups, I can only think of the first film, the TV series and the anime movie as the good parts and the bad being: the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th films, the kids cartoon, the 5th and 6th seasons of the TV series, the Spin off TV series you get the idea.

It can't be this hard to make a workable series out of this. but instead we get nothing but movie after movie of sub-par acting, mediocre special effects, and constant continuity problems.
is anyone else on the Escapist a fan of Highlander and do you think it as a series can be saved?
I'm told that a remake is being made does anyone think this will work?

also what happened to the Highlander video game did it get cancelled?

In all honesty? No. There's just so many bad ideas, so much bad storytelling and NO good characters left in the entire series, particularly with the main protagonists of both the films and the television series living happily ever after/being dead. (I'm looking at you, Endgame and Source.)

Remake? ... I don't think so. The third movie is an okay remake of the first one. I'm sure that we don't need another one. Particularly if Christopher Lambert isn't involved.

I like the first movie, but I don't think I qualify as a fan because most fans can enjoy the bad just as much as they can the good (I can with Doctor Who, for example) and I really can't get over the films that follow it. It's really a shame because there was so much potential for an awesome film series but instead they ended up in a confusing mess. I try really hard to pretend that the first film is the only one that exists because on its own it's great.

I guess a remake COULD work but it would probably take a miracle.

A remake isn't possible because Connor MacLeod was killed off in Endgame and then in The Source they completely fucked up the entire mythos of the original story because what used to be the SciFi Channel wouldn't know how to make a good movie.

I am mistaken its not a remake but a re-imagining of the whole series with a planned 2 sequels and a new TV series, at least according to Wikipedia

I only saw the anime thing for the HIghlander, but from that it was awesome. and I htink i saw a scifi channel original movie for highlander. Where there was a few of them as friends and they had to go to scotland to kill this "rouge" highlander but the closer they got, the less powerful they got (I know the one highlander was killed without his head being removed),so i dont think i can give an opinion. BUt I liked those two, if it means anyhting.
