There Will Likely Never be Another Xbox One Exclusive

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1329/1329049.jpg
Microsoft has announced that all future Microsoft-published Xbox One titles will also be available on PC.

Microsoft has Xbox Play Anywhere program [https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/06/29/windows-10-anniversary-update-available-august-2/] - meaning that if you purchase the game on Xbox One, you'll get a free copy to play on your Windows 10 PC (or vice-versa).

"Every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere and will be easily accessible in the Windows Store," wrote corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi. What this means is that there will likely never be another Xbox One exclusive title, unless of course a third-party publisher such as EA games decides to make a game exclusively for the console.

Xbox Play Anywhere is a bold new initiative from Microsoft that allows players to seamlessly switch between the two platforms. Purchasing a game on either platform unlocks it for the other, and saves, achievements, and other data will transfer easily between the two.

ReCore is currently the first scheduled Xbox Play Anywhere release, coming on September 13, and other major titles such as Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and Cuphead will join later.

I never thought this day would come, and it makes me so glad it did.

Finally I won't need to buy 3 PC variants to play all of the games. I hope someday I'll only have to buy a PC so I could play everything - I honestly don't know why consoles have existed ever since the 7th gen, when games received patches, were sometimes unoptimized and unplayable, and they started dropping the local multiplayer.

Good job, Microsoft. I hope Sony and Nintendo follow in your lead.

And I'm just over here, waiting for GFWL 2.0 to crash and burn.

XBone games on my PC still isn't enough to get me to get Windows 10, and I'm sure someone will figure out a workaround for those of us who wanted to remain with Windows 7 or 8.

Don't understand the hate for Windows 10. Yes, it's... aggressive with its upgrades, but it is considerably better than Windows 8, and even a little better than Windows 7 which is getting quite dated these days.

You know, I tried to upgrade from 7 last week. Cue BSOD 60 seconds after boot for the entire rest of the day until I downgraded. Problem with an integrated graphic driver, none of the half a dozen solutions I tried worked.

I'm still rather salty over it.

OT: Yup. Yuuuup. I put forth the theory in a thread a couple months ago that MS were training their Xbox userbase up to be PC Gamers. This is absolutely in line with that. Screw the fear mongering over Nintendo, MS is looking to jump out of the console market. Next gen, maybe the one after it, they'll be pushing XBox brand PCs. They're gonna go all Steam Machine.

I think the fact it was shoved down our throats (to the point many of us had the rather large upgrade be literally forced onto our systems) set things off to a bad start, and the fact it took the better part of a year for it to even be as good as 7 or 8 didn't help matters.

This will hold true until Halo 6 comes out and they drop this marketing talk and ditch the PC again.

I suppose Yahtzee was right about the Xbox becoming a cheap gaming PC inch by inch, but I'm still just sitting here, waiting for Halo 1, 2 and 3 to get a Steam release.

This would be great news if they weren't also exclusive to 10. Still, an improvement.

It's more that it's a privacy nightmare, and why when Windows 7 stops being supported, I'll likely move to Linux full-time.

Aaaaaand any chance I might buy an Xbone just went into the toilet. Which doesn't make me sad in any way. Any chance of Sunset Overdrive on PC? It's pretty much the only exclusive I can name I gave a crap about.

Those updates have rendered my system unusable four times thus far. I'm not even on the high end of this, evidently.

Thing is, I'd love Windows 10 if not for that. As it stands, it's...decent. But the amount of work I have to put into rescuiing my OS and data from the developer's own code is just absurd and I absolutely get why people would be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed. And I can't even stop it from updating my PC because you can only select a metered connection for WiFi, even if your bandwidth is metered. Now you run into the additional issue that this could be incredibly costly for a lot of people (or cause your ISP to throttle your traffic or cut you off entirely if you exceed your cap), and...yeah. When people hate Windows 10 for its update policy, I can see why. It's better than Win7 in a lot of ways, but if it renders your computer unusable, it doesn't matter how much better the theoretical performance or features are.

If it means having to use GFWL 2.0, then I'm sorry, but it still counts as an Xbone exclusive. I am using Windows 10 btw (it works remarkably well, if your hardware is somewhat current) and gaming on it is really no different to Windows 7.

so, legitimate question;

If this turns out to be true, then ... why waste money on the XBone it self?

Dislike of Windows 10, already owning a Bone, keeping with physical media as much as possible.

So long as their game are locked into the Windows store and are UWAs, MS can forget it. If their games come to Steam as normal Win32 programs, I might consider it, but until something changes, I will most likely continue to treat MS as though it didn't exist in the gaming space.

And I still don't give a shit because fuck windows 10, bringing over your inferior Xbone exclusives isn't going to change my mind Micro$oft, I have far too many good games on PC as it is, although I will say, they really seem to be pushing hard for people to not give a fuck about the Xbox One

While it's good to hear that some example of exclusivity is dying down, if you're only doing it to further exclusivize a larger market, that's not really a good thing, Microsoft. I guess you figured that if packaging Internet Explorer with Windows 95 got you sued for breaking anti-trust laws 20 years ago, but Apple can get with... well, everything, these days, and still have its fans call you monopolistic, you might as well go for it; no point in taking the bad without the good, eh? And as Google and Facebook have shown, few people care about privacy or control anymore.

It's a very strange feeling to think that you're the only one who still sees the people spying on you as the bad guys. It's a much stranger one to find yourself so empathetic towards something you see must be opposed, no matter the cost.

They have already confirmed that Halo 6 will be released on PC actually:

Ohmigosh everyone. Look, I refer to Microsoft as Micro$oft because the 'S' looks like a '$', and it shows that Microsoft are greedy for cash!! I'm so clever :)

And I only refer to the Xbox One as the Xbone, because it is very penisy, since it's made by Microdollaroft.

Man... We all get it. You don't like Microsoft or their console. Your terms stopped being funny a long time ago, it's just exhausting, I don't know why you bother.
I always interpreted the term Xbone in the old-fashioned way [http://dialbforblog.com/archives/136/]...
Because you know, the horrendous direction MS originally wanted to take the console and the following outrage, truly made this a boner for the ages.

OT: So wait, they're basically making themselves obsolete? Interesting...

Because it's paying for convenience.

-To start, a regular Xbox One is cheaper than a gaming PC. Note, I'm not saying the Xbox One is BETTER. I'm saying that it's CHEAPER. $300 won't get you a very good PC.
You'd be surprised what $300 dollars can get you if you're very picky and don't mind getting used parts. Put some more into it and you've got something that equals or runs some laps around both a Bone and a PS4. Not always a lot of laps, but still.
-When you buy a PC, you either need to pay an inflated price for a prebuilt flashy PC which isn't overly powerful (e.g. an Alienware), or you need to have a relatively good amount of knowledge as to what components you need, which are better etc. To buy an Xbox, you just go into a store and pay for it.
These days, if you have a smartphone, you arguably know enough to deal with assembling a system or paying someone/a company to assemble it for you without buying from a company that inflates the price tenfold.
-On PC, games are primarily bought digitally, and are generally all over the place. You'll be using Steam, Origins, Games for Windows, Battle.net, etc. Xbox games are either physical, or all stored in a singular location.
Most will be using Steam or Bnet and GFW is incredibly unlikely considering it's effectively dead and you'll need to work around it for older titles(I miss you, Battlestations).
-When you play a game on PC, you'll need to mess around with the settings configuration to try and find the setup which best works on your PC at the best quality. On Xbox, all of the settings are already configured to be as good as the system can handle it.
Not really. There are questionable choices on consoles that make you wish you could change settings to get stable/better framerates.
Sure, some of the things that I've listed may seem ridiculous to some. However, the #PCMASTERRACE isn't the sole market for games. Not everyone has nor wants to learn the knowledge required for PC setups and games. It's good that Microsoft are accommodating preference.
I'm actually willing to say at this point that anyone that does not have the knowledge to go through basic PC game setups these days are possibly mentally impaired, considering how easy it has gotten. Not calling those people retarded, I'm saying that if a person cannot go through a basic install screen for Steam or, for select titles, input a CD key, I don't think they can use a console either.

It's one thing to not want to deal with any possible extra steps and just want to be lazy about things. That's fine, not using the word as an insult. I'm lazy.
But with the proliferation of smartphones and the like, I find it hard to believe that someone who uses one on a regular basis does not have the knowledge to set up games on a PC, or even hardware. With modular phones and cases on the horizon, and the things you now need to do to set up a console, the idea that PC gaming needs a lot of time to even understand has long gone out the window.

A friend of mine came up with Appl?.
And I only refer to the Xbox One as the Xbone, because it is very penisy, since it's made by Microdollaroft.
I don't think anyone has ever thought of it to mean a Penis. Just a bone, dog bone probably.
I mean, even owners of the system call it that.
Man... We all get it. You don't like Microsoft or their console. Your terms stopped being funny a long time ago, it's just exhausting, I don't know why you bother.
Because it's actually a funny term for the system that makes sense?
And shit, there's no faulting them on this motion. They're just accommodating preference. People will still buy Xbox Ones, but now the games are accessible on PC as well. Sure, it's limited, but it's progress.
If it was available for Windows 7 or Windows 10 wasn't a pile, it'd be great progress.

To me, it just seems like an attempt to get people to convert to another locked down store on a locked down system, which many people here have nailed in being disturbingly similar to Games for Windows Live.

I don't even know why I typed this at 11:00PM.
