So I was browsing the internet when I came across this picture:

It was one of the first times I've actually realised that, yes, there are people that ignorant in the world.
It makes me just a little sick.

What do you think of this? Have you ever encountered anything like it?

I don't believe anyone in what they say on the internet. People saying things with so many different "faces", I can't believe anything on the internet unless your name is "GOOGLE".

Welcome to the internet:
Where people take advantage of the fact that they can't find you by saying the most ignorant things they can think of. Anonymity tends to bring out the true nature of people.

Edit: Let me rephrase that: Yes, we know who they are and where they live because it's Facebook, but honestly, does anyone ever REALLY follow up on those "I know where you live and I'll get you" things? Apart from complete psychopaths? They know nobody will do anything about it, so they post whatever they want.

Those people weren't anonymous though. With that panel I could hunt them all down in fifteen minutes.

But those people in the picture aren't anonymous.
You can (and I have) find them on Facebook with a quick search, and see their personal information.

I'm surprised they haven't been buried in angry comments yet.

i sometimes like to entertain myself with thoughts of the nobility and strength of the human spirit, but then I see things like this. Fucking idiots are so depressing.

You have never encountered ignorance before? Where have you been? It annoys me people are that ignorant. Also when people say thing like "I think homosexuality is a choice" whether it is or isn't isn't an opinion, dumb shit; let alone the fact that they already pretty much proved that people are born that way.

It's not THAT anonymous, their names and pictures are there and everything... But I don't actually care about the ignorant things people say on the internet. Actually, caring about anything anyone says on the internet can only bring negative consequences in the end... People are assholes and dicks. There was a time when it was polite to hide these sides of our personality, but the kids now, growing up ON the internet, know of no such boundaries, and become assholes and dicks in real life as well...

Sad.

Maybe gays have a better sense of humor and tolerance than people in general, which is why they have not drowned these users with angry comments and promises of poo-filled bags on fire outside their homes? I like to believe so ^^. GAY PRIDE ffs!

It's strange, the people I know around here tend to be fairly accepting of most things.
I don't think I've ever had a conversation with anyone who's this ignorant.

I guess it's a bit of a blessing.

Ignorance of ignorance, hmm that's interesting.

Yeah I'm not surprised that there are people like this. Doesn't stop me from feeling very angry at them, but I'm not surprised. Its sort of like "*Sigh* Time to purge the ignorant again. Hold on while I get my flamer." And yeah I know people have a right to an opinion. So they think that homosexuality is a choice, whatever. I don't think people are born gay or lesbian or bi or whatever, but when they say something like "If you want to be gay then suffer the consequences" my blood starts to boil.

Surely people are more likely to speak their mind online though, as they have the safety of their computer screen to protect them? Even on sites like facebook people are more likely to speak their mind rather than in real life...

And nah I'm not surprised. People are ignorant and stupid. The problem here is the guy is stating his opinion as fact...

It's sad that these people feel this way, but they are entitled to their beliefs. I disagree with them, but as long as they aren't hurting anyone, then I see no problem with it. Sure, it's a shame that they feel that way, and that they're that ignorant, but what can you really do to change their minds?

I've seen studies done some time ago showing that there is a difference between the average straight man's brain and the average gay man's brain. I think it was an underdevelopment of the hypothalamus gland (forgive me if that's a typo, it's been a while since anatomy). While this isn't direct proof that being gay is, in fact caused by anatomical abnormalities, it seems to me like it should be studied more.

Also, if being gay is a choice, why would a young person choose to be part of such a looked down upon minority willingly? It doesn't make sense. I've known several gay people and they were much nicer people than most straight people I know, myself included. I see no reason to be offended or whatever just because someone's gay.

Agreed. I've seen gay people who absolutely hate themselves and do not want to be gay. It just bugs me when people think gayness is a choice with feelings like these around.

People choose to be goth or furry or a number of other things and take a lot of heat for it.

I'll buy the goth thing because that's a clothing style. I won't buy into the furry thing because that's a sexual attraction. Although I suppose being attracted to goths works the same way, but I'm not sure as to what the extent of "goth" you're talking about.

Here's the thing. You're going to be attracted to whoever/whatever you're attracted to. There are people with shoe fetishes, BDSM fetishes, etc etc. The main difference being, with the possible exception of furries, is that those other attractions/fetishes/kinks don't really get much flak unless they're in the open about it, and even then that's typically around others with similar tastes.

Now, I'm not saying that I agree with the whole furry thing, but how often do you hear about furries being driven to suicide and whatnot? I'm not saying it hasn't happened, it's just not nearly as publicized. What people do in the privacy of their bedroom is their business.

Some people, like goths, emos, etc etc, choose those groups for the sole reason of standing apart from everyone else. It's something that they could change if they really wanted to, but they choose not to. Very few of them I think would come out and say, "I wouldn't be true to who I am." if they decided to change clothing styles and music and all. Of course, I can't say for sure because I'm not typically around people like that. I could do a poll on here and find out a good sample I think if you'd like.

I'm a sociology major you see, and things like this interest me. What causes people to act in certain ways and why. I'd be willing to bet that a fair percentage of the Escapist population would fall under that "To be different." or "Because my friends are." category. I doubt any gay person would say the same.

Just out of curiosity whatever happened to FucM? Y'know the gene that was supposed to have created lesbian mice due to the lack of FucM?

yeah, on that same safety, they can say whatever they want, be whoever they want and whether they mean it or not. *shrug* It's the same with trolling. I guess I am giving them more benefit of the doubt, but I don't feel comfortable judging people based on what's said on the internet. Besides, even if they do mean it so what? People surprised people can be mean/ignorant?
