Remember those threads about how today's teenagers suck?
Well, I guess everybody who passes that age says that.

Anyhow, I just witnessed something on the bus, a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
It was two teenage girls talking about another girl behind her back (as they always do).
Bored as I was, I listened in a bit.

Turns out they were chastising her for how snobby she was, always wearing the newest clothing from expensive brands and annoying people who did not have the rich daddy necessary to do the same.

I actually had to smile a little, seeing that there are still normal people among those mostly marked "spoiled, misbehaving brats" by society these days.

So, what positive experiences did you have that counter the stereotype of the loud, spoiled, brain-dead teenagers of today?

Its just the abnormal once that draws all the attention.

That's why I said "stereotype".

Erm well I don't really know about the stereotype, since I figured there were some pretty horrible groups of people that seem to span a large range of ages, from about 10 to middle age. Teenagers have been portrayed as a blight upon the face of society for generations. Seeing regular teenagers, who aren't blatantly trying to fit into a clique tends to make me smile, knowing that there are people who are happy with who they are without conforming to a stereotype.

Um...well done?

I have no idea why this means there is "hope", they were still bitching behind someones back...

As for the whole teenage sterotype - I don't know, nor care for sterotypes - all teenagers are normal people, theres no real catagory that seperates the "normal" teenagers from those you are insulting with this thread.

There's a few fencers in my club who are teenagers. Since fencing seems to be the great sport of nerds, I find that I can relate to them fairly easily (even if I am a decade older). They're still full of youthful idealism and tend to see the world in terms of absolutes, but then the world hasn't had the opportunity to squelch them just yet.

Look in recent years I have made a few observations. The ultra cool party kids image has changed recently. Nowadays it's cool to be a nerd, I mean look at us. We are a whole community and there are both men and women on this forum destroying a couple of stereotypes.
Not to mention most of the 'nerdy girls' are a lot more attractive than the 'cool girls' I mean seriously. The nerdy guys get to date the hot nerd girls who also are actually fun to talk to, we win.
Normal people do exist, and the crazy nerdy geeky people have finally won the bloody war against the popular people. It was a long bitter war but it was won, let us commemorate some of the heroes of that war.

Well, when I was at school the nice people did seem to out-number the crap people. But when you think back, only the crappy people come to mind.

I'm 15 and I was talking to a guuy who works in a game shop, he was maybe arund 30, nice guy. I'm sure I gave him hope when it comes to teenagers as he didn't seem to be in any hurry to stop talking :p.

So far they are all egotistical, vain and violent.

I will continue to believe this til I have some proof that doesn't involve being shouldered for having the audacity to be on a pavement.

As long as teenagers don't become like the teens in "Clockwork Orange" society is ok.
