My girlfriend works for the state news paper where I live. She just texted me about another Slender Man Stabbing. I hope this stupid crap isn't going to be a thing.

These are tenuous links that likely don't hold up under any further scrutiny than tabloid news.

This means that someone will try to make it a thing, but it won't be a thing for more than a few months.

I think this is more like the old Oprah shows where they talk about some new rare disease that is affecting people and all go " Oh My God I'm affected by that to!"

This seems like people jumping on the band wagon to try and claim here's a reason why people are being psycho.

Either it's just someone being a copycat because one person got attention because of it and now they want attention...or Slenderman is real. Either way, we probably shouldn't give it too much attention. If they just want attention, we shouldn't give them what they want, and if Slenderman is real...well...just don't turn around right now.

First of all, don't say "killings." Nobody has died yet, so as of now these are attacks.

As for the story, the only thing I'm really worried about is people trivializing the root problem because of the alleged inspiration for the attacks. I mean, look at the opening line of this article. "Slender man has struck again." They're treating it like a fucking joke, yet this is about 13 year old girl who stabbed her mother in the back with a knife. Regardless of what inspired them, these children obviously need some serious mental help. I feel like this one might be a copycat, but that doesn't change the fact that something caused a 13-year-old to attack her mother with a potentially deadly weapon. That isn't a joke.

At least this girl is facing charges as a juvenile, and will hopefully get more counseling than incarceration. That's what the other girls need, too. These kids don't need prison time, they need therapy. Hell most prisoners probably need therapy, but the least we can do is start with counseling children who commit such heinous crimes.

I guarantee that if Fox News gets wind of this, they'll be blaming the games rather than the meme. Guaranteed. They'll do anything to scapegoat the latest thing in the headlights.

Why do people have to bring up Fox News where it doesn't belong? Does Fox News have anything to do with Slenderman? Do they exclusively cover stabbings now? Did the OP or the linked article say anything about the games industry?

I'm not even defending Fox News (not that they've even done anything yet)I'm just sick of people bringing it up every time something happens, when 9/10 times they never even pick up the story.

Interesting phrase you just used "No one has died yet".

OT: It's mostly teenage girls and they tend to do stupid things. Some time ago it was sacrificing to the devil or trying to become a "witch" to stop other girls from picking on them, now it's Slenderman.

I just hope that Slenderman won't go the road of the vampire and become a sex icon.

Oh great. Now I'm envisioning the intro bit to Twilight but with Slenderman in place of Edward. his smooth, blank face gazing at Bella and somehow she knows he longs for her.

And no one can tell he's Slenderman for some reason.

Isn't the first victim in intensive care with no guarantees?

Sorry.

I really shouldn't have been so chipper about such a violent attack. Hopefully she'll come out okay.

I was making a bad joke about future potential incidents. It was in bad taste.

These attacks are just too absurd. It was either humor or just bemoaning the viciousness and senselessness of these attacks.

Well, Slenderman attempts at killing. I don't know what to say really, how do you stop little girls finding influence in fictitious creepy stories on the internet? Thankfully so far they've shown to be ineffectual but fuck.

Yeah I'm sorry about using the word "killings", but thank you for pointing it out. I changed it to stabbings. As far as your comment, I totally agree, because I'm a little concerned about it being trivialized as well.

Isn't this kind of in the same catagory of "kid puts on superman cape, jumps off roof thinking he can fly now, turns out not so much, ends up in intensive care"?

Except instead of superman it's slenderman, but either way a mind that saw some kind of fiction and decided to emulate it.

Why not blame "Catcher in the Rye" for the Isla Vista killings?

Guys this publication is basically like the National Enquirer. The stories are complete bullshit. Just look at the other articles they have posted.

Unless that article is true that Obama is releasing a Gitmo prisoner for taking up Yoga.

It's fox news because, They'll be the ones that get the creepy pasta guy and a child physiologist and the most out of touch new anchor they have and nation wide shame them like they did with video games with mass effect and gta.

The thing is the news they do cover, they blow it so out of proportion they turn the criminals into celebrities.

Like I said, I'm not defending Fox News, but my point stands that they have nothing to do with this thread or this article. Also I have no idea what you're talking about, who said anything about creepy pasta guys and a child psychologist? I remember the whole Mass Effect controversy, but again I fail to see how that has anything to do with this story.

It sounds like your beef isn't with Fox but with the media as a whole because every news outlet blows these out of proportion to some extent. My point actually has nothing to do with Fox, and everything to do with people who bring shit up that doesn't belong, just to fuel some misdirected smear campaign.
