Roughly 15 years ago, my household had a very old Mac computer (back in the days when Macs were still beige and the apple logo was still rainbow-patterned on the case). It was my first experience with video games (interrupted by the occasional journey to the arcade to play the X-Men arcade game) and it set me on the path to being a gamer at a very young age.
However, to this day, I can recall very little about either of the two games it had. With what little I can recall, I have embarked on various excursions into Google to find any trace of these games, but have found nothing. The utter lack of proof of these games causes me to doubt my own sanity.
Still, I shall recount what little I can remember, and perhaps one of you can at least ease my mind by agreeing that these did, at one time, exist.
Mac Rogue: I'm fairly certain this is what it was called. It was a Mac-specific version of the classic Rogue games. It was mildly Zelda-esque in some small way. It was sprite based, and featured a colourful little world (rather linear for an adventure game) filled with ice monsters and hobgoblins that said "ho HO" when they appeared.
When starting a new game, you were given the choice between a male character who wielded a sword and wore a green cap. He was vaguely reminiscent of Link in appearance, as I recall. The second choice was a female princess character, who wielded a magic wand and was vaguely reminiscent of Link in a pink princecss' dress
The farthest I ever got in the game was when I stumbled across a room that was filled with several of every type of monster in the game, that somehow resulted in instant death. I don't know if this was bad design, mean-spirited design, or maybe I only had a demo version or something.
In any case, I remember little else from it, other than the fact that it was fun at the time.
DragonMaze: This one I am less sure that this was the title, but I definitely seem to recall that being close to the title.
This one I remember even less, so bear with me if this seems disjointed.
It was a 2-D, probably sprite based dungeon crawler. It featured a maze-like map filled with monsters and loot. It had some RPG elements to it - there was a separate window that could be opened for your inventory, in which you could equip various kinds of medieval armour and weaponry. It showed a little picture of your character and what armour he was wearing at the time.
Occasionally on the map, you could find a teleporter that would send you elsewhere in the dungeon. Whenever emerging from the teleporter, your character would be on top of one of the dividing walls. Once you stepped off the wall, however, there was no other way to get back on them (except to take the teleporter again).
Also, there was a hydra in the basement level of the dungeon that always killed me.
I don't know if any of that rings any bells with you lot, or even if it made sense, but I'd be interested to know if anyone else knows of these games, or can find proof of their existence.
Also, bear in mind, I was approximately 5 when I played these games, so not everything I'm remembering may be accurate.
