I'm going to start this out saying I have nothing against the big N but the fanboys more like because they feel like their favorite company needs defending and to be the first to something.

Excuse me for nerding out a bit here but I find it confusing how many people are wrong with who started/created technology. I see a number of people saying Nintendo were the first company to use certain technology, like analog controls, and motion controllers they weren't the first far far from the first infact. I'm not saying this is like a few people, I've seen articles about controllers stating the 64 was the first system to have an analog stick, and every company that makes motion controls is copying Nintendo.

Arcades, Atari,Vectrex, Sega Saturn, Playstation all had analog controllers of some kind before the 64 was even out.

Xavix was a console out before the wii that used motion controls with a lot of games that was later featured in wii sports.
And when you counter this with how it happened they counter with "Yeah well they were the first successful ones with it" which doesn't have any relevance, does your favorite company NEED to be first here? Again, nothing against the big N here because they're not the ones saying this I'm simply genuinely confused with this.

So I guess for discussion value:
Have you seen tech related "myths" like this before?
Does it bother you that they're parroting wrong information?
Do you like french toast? Syrup or no? Butter?

1. Yes, but I never really paid attention until I was made aware of it. Like this, for example.
2. Sure.
3. Yes. With maple sirrup.

And I'm just theorizing here, but I think the Nintendo fanboys are so defensive with their products 'cause errbody s**ts on the Wii. Unless people have always s**tted on Nintendo prior to the Wii, but I do not recall this.

In short, if Bob punches Joe in the face repeatedly, eventually, it's no surprise that Joe is going to punch back.
I get what you're saying but this isn't shitting on them at all, they're simply stating false facts. Like I said this is me nerding out 'a bit' but when you're wrong you're wrong. And when you write articles about controller history and you don't do your research it's a bit silly.

They're getting credit for tech that was made WAY before they used it, but when you call them out on that "Well they were the ones who made it successful" and that has what to do with anything?

Edit: As usual my thread dies before I finished typing the first post.

Don't sweat it, mister.

...Wanna go get some french toast?
Bah it happens no matter what I do, I swear I'm invisible. The only time I get attention is when I say a device is stupid for doing something.

...Yeah let's get some french toast :C

1: I've seen those. Mostly relating to Apple. That's what happens when I interact with the Facebook generation.
2: Not really. You can correct all you want, people will be stupid all they want.
3: Not really. More of a waffle person.

And I'm just theorizing here, but I think the Nintendo fanboys are so defensive with their products 'cause errbody s**ts on the Wii. Unless people have always s**tted on Nintendo prior to the Wii, but I do not recall this.
As one who has had every system, and been a kid around those times, I can testify that this is nothing new.

SNES had the whole "Genesis does..." stuff.
the Gamecube was the "kiddy" console, and didn't have "mature" games like GTA and Halo.
And now Wii is the "Casual/Waggle System"
The DS was the "underpowered piece of shit" to the "awesome" PSP.

Nintendo has ALWAYS been the company that's "cool" to hate. Even if the WiiU has Episode 3, Timepslitters 4, Battlefront 3, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 as exclusives, people would STILL be calling Nintendo's console the "console for kiddies or manchildren who only like the games for nostalgia."

What came before the power glove? That's the earliest I can think when Motion controls were used for gaming. I think the main reason these types of myths come to light is because the concept is popularized by that thing, and then later on, that's the earliest most people remember the related concept, so people assume that it was the first. It's sorta like the Weird Al Effect, where the most popular become the better known, even though it may be a direct copy or take off of something else that came before it. Like while the N64 wasn't the first instance of analog controls, it was the first thumb operated control stick, as opposed to the more often used joystick tech used before, which became the norm for how that technology was used from then on, due to the popularity of the console. And yeah, the Wii wasn't the first motion control device by a long shot, like I said, those go waaaay back to the Power Glove days, but it was the first one that was really successful and used more practically for general gaming, so it started the trend for how those tend to be used.

Also, I think most people know that sorta thing, but when they say that something "started" something, like motion controls or what have you, they're probably meaning to say popularized, but that's a more awkward word to use in everyday conversation. Besides, it doesn't really matter who did what first, unless someone is being sued, since it's much more important to determine who did what better, when it comes to improving gaming experiences.

Man, french toast with syrup is so damn good, I love it so much.
This one time when a friend of mine were getting set to have a gaming sesh at around 1am, but he said "brb, my mom made french toast". I go "wtf? why did your mom make you french toast at 1am?". Apparently he hadn't eaten all day, so his mom made some french toast because she felt bad. I was so fucking jelly that his mom made him french toast at 1am :(
I wish my mom made me french toast at 1am before I got into a gaming session... Gaming on a full belly is so much better than gaming on an empty belly, or trying to snack and play at the same time. Then you don't have to worry about getting your controller/keyboard sticky/greasy/crumbsy.

Oh, and I still think Nintendo > Sony in every way.

The "Nintendo did it first" thing dates back well before the Wii.

OMG HOW DARE YOU BRING MISINFORMATION LIKE THIS OUT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!

On topic:
I have had all the consoles (not handhelds) of Nintendo and play a few games a year which I find interesting. But I don't go on defending them for something I know nothing about. I actually thought they were the first motion ones (apparently not true), didn't care about the analog stick thingy and I just look now and then for games to my wii which I might like, buy them and play them.
The only thing I don't like is how every Xbox and PS player always bashes Nintendo, what's up with that? I don't run along commenting on flaws in the two other major consoles, if you don't like it then why bother commenting about it? Play what you like and stop worrying about the rest.
To your question:
Yeah, this is the internet, don't find a myth? You're clearly not in the web.
Well sort of, but I doubt many had heard of this other thing before the Wii and Nintendo has the money to do a little what they want so I won't be able to stop it.
French Toast yes please, with butter and marmelade.

That's what I've always wondered, first of, who cares if someone is bashing sony/ms/nintendo, do you work for them? Why get offended right?

Also, why do they bash it? Probably to validate their purchase. Clearly their choices are better than yours because they're just better than you!

Isn't that always how it works? I mean that's how it worked back in the Genesis vs SNES days. Well my shit has blast processing! :U

Yes. Xerox didn't invent the mouse, contrary to popular belief. Some guy in Germany patented a device similar to it and apparently shipped it with a computer before Xerox. Also, anybody who's not a computer scientist doesn't care about that statement.

No. Everyone, including me, is ignorant and believes in things in things that are incorrect. I don't have time to be bother constantly over people being wrong on something.

A little. No syrup and lots of butter.

No syrup? Really? That's ...that's just crazy, you gotta drench that stuff in syrup. Then follow it with milk.

When people use a "No true Scotsman" argument I don't get angry, I point out there logic fallacy and go about my day.

Yeah, I don't like breakfast food and maple syrup makes me queasy.

Much like when some tool tells me Halo started regenerating health.

It's been around for years.

The first video games to use it were the Hydlide games from 1984, followed by the more popular Ys series from 1987 onwards. However, this mechanic was rarely used outside of the action RPG genre until the 2000s.
http://www.giantbomb.com/regenerating-health/92-83/

Not only is regenerating health a lot older than Halo it's also a lot older than a lot of people who play Halo.

Oh I'm not really hung up on it because 1 person said it, I've just seen it a lot more frequently so I'm just confused and I guess "sort of" looking for a reason why. Also figured it'd make a decent topic.
