Because put it this way, how would you feel if a bunch of superior-technology aliens landed on Earth and then told your entire town to get out as there's minerals underneath they want. If you refuse, they'll just blow it up with you still in it. The cat-people aren't that unlike humans that you can't emphasize with them.

OT: Any eccentric British character will bear similarities to me, but I can't think of any characters right now that are just like me.
