bows are cool.
you know its true.
I was wondering more about why in one image he is holding it left handed and in another right handed. Ambidextrous thief? Innocent fuck up? The fact he has a compound bow rather than his regular thief-bow makes me wonder if the archery mechanics will be derped, with a really shallow arc on each shot and little to no wobble (can't remember how easy it was to aim in Thief 3). You at least had to think about how much the arrows would drop, so taking out some of the difficulty might just be annoying.SckizoBoy said:Well, let's hope the levels are larger in Thief 4... they were still good in Dishonored, but it never took long to go around them completely.Chrono212 said:There is a very strong vibe of Dishonored in these screenshots but there was a lot of Thief in Dishonored. There also seems to have been an executive decision to drop the stylised "THI4F" and just go with, presumably, a standard reboot name of "Thief".
Personally, I think this is a very exciting direction for Thief to take. I've tried the original games but struggle with my 'modern sensibilities' to really get into the world and the mechanics, even though they are right up my street. I look forward to see if these are confirmed and we finally get some solid details again.
Anyway... *ahem* ... that is terrible technique for shooting a compound! And LOL, are those dampers?!
Still, there's going to be a lock-picking mini-game... looks as though it got ripped from Oblivion, however...

The fact you could go around those levels so quickly may have something to do with the fact that you had all-powerful blink at your disposal.SckizoBoy said:Well, let's hope the levels are larger in Thief 4... they were still good in Dishonored, but it never took long to go around them completely.

Game Informer has a full preview of the game for paying members. I am not a paying member, but needless to say for any curious enough fan there are places where it can be seen regardless.rhizhim said:what do you mean the hammerites are gone now?The Madman said:Yep, they fucked it up. Quick, people who've played Thief, what are some of the iconic elements of the Thief series? Think it over in your head, I'll wait...
Bet the religious turmoil and the fanatical Hammerites were on that list, especially considering they were the key plot element in Thief 2. Their entire order, their beliefs, and the grand and lavish cathedrals they built were essential to the series.
They're gone now.
What. The. Fuck.
how do you know that?

I have to say all these details did kill my initial excitement for this game. I still have some faith in Eidos Montreal becacause of DX:HR but I will now have to wait and see on this reboot now.The Madman said:Game Informer has a full preview of the game for paying members. To summarize some of the points made in it however:
-No Undead
-No Burricks
-No Hammerites
-No Magic
-No Water Arrows
-No Rope Arrows
-Cinematic Takedowns
Water Arrows have been replaced with 'dry-ice' arrows for whatever reason, and the rope arrow is replaced with a gun that shoots a grappling hook, presumably so that the devs can make it more context sensitive and not have people running around improvising and having fun. Damned kids!
There's some good stuff as well, but obviously being the grumpy cynic that I am I choose to focus almost entirely on the negative things.
To be fair the developers are being extremely coy about the game, perhaps they're simply hiding something, I don't know. It's also odd that in the article they say they don't want to focus on any magic or fantasy, and yet it also describes Garrett stealing a glowing rune-covered medallion. The Artificially Prolonged said:I have to say all these details did kill my initial excitement for this game. Yeah... I think they wanted to make Dishonored or their own version of Assassin's Creed and decided to just use the Thief name. The fact that the story sounds like Dishonored isn't helping...rhizhim said:nope. you are not grumpy. that is indeed bad.The Madman said:Game Informer has a full preview of the game for paying members. cinematic takedowns. thats the nail in the coffin right there.
garett was never about taking guards down in a stupid "jazz hands , flippin shit " clip show like in every retarded game nowadays, but to avoid them and distract them.
and i dont give a rats ass if Eidos Montréal succeeded with deus ex.
you dont. give. garett. the. possibility. to. take. down. guards. especially if its in a cinematic "press x for instantkill" kind of way.
and why the fuck do they ditch the rope arrows AND the friggin Water arrows which were essential in the thief games?.
whats next? no moss arrows(because the retarded inpatient gamer can't sneak behind someone anyone and use the blackjack?)
just dry ice arrows. we might as well make garret fling shit against torches.
and then its the usual sleep darts and deadly dart. in explosive, fire and pointy flavours.
seriously fuck dishonored in his stupid ass if it should have even slightly "inspired" the new thief.

It's Assassin's Creed with a Thief skin. FML...
I do want to emphasize the article is extremely coy and elusive in many regards, so its entirely possible it's being deliberately misleading. I don't know. Until more details for the game emerge it's really hard to tell.rhizhim said:nope. you are not grumpy. that is indeed bad.
wheres that image, theres one of him pointing a bow at people but not shooting and one of him pushing a gaurd into another gaurd. is there more images else were?Impluse_101 said:.....What.

Like I mention above they state that they want to tone down magical and fantastical elements, and yet the very same article has Garrett stealing a mysterious medallion that glows with unknown runes, so obviously there is some magic involved.
Right now it's impossible to tell.
Well, you can get ambidextrous compounds these days, so it's not that much of a stretch. My issue was more with... *makes silly turning noise* horizontal bow... -_- *derp*CriticalMiss said:I was wondering more about why in one image he is holding it left handed and in another right handed. Well, even without Blink, I managed to sneak my way around the maps fairly quickly... bit too Bioware-ish in map size, to me.Mordekaien said:The fact you could go around those levels so quickly may have something to do with the fact that you had all-powerful blink at your disposal.
I would certainly hope they don't fuck up that minigame by having it freeze time, like it did in Oblivion. It get's kind of more hectic to pick a lock when you hear a guard coming closer while you work those tumblers.
Dunno, to me they seemed pretty big. Might be that I just spend more of my time walking through them though.SckizoBoy said:Well, even without Blink, I managed to sneak my way around the maps fairly quickly... bit too Bioware-ish in map size, to me.
As for the minigame, I think they'll freeze time considering how many tumblers there are, which is a pity because even with an easy lockpick, the tension of knowing enemies might come up on you at any moment will make it harder for you.
I'm kinda curious why is he wearing a man corset. I guess perhaps you'd call it a girdle? Also where are his pouches a thief needs to have pouches to ya know put the stuff he steals in. All I see is lots of leather straps, it looks like he's going to a BSDM shoot rather than going to steal shit. The Madman said:Incidentally, here's another picture of Garrett's new appearance:
