Running into an unexpected sex scene while playing on a big screen tv with the rest of the family in the room. I'm looking at you, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

So awkward.

...you do realize that the overblown sexuality was supposed to be a joke, right? It didnt make me feel uncomfortable, except when it had me laughing my ass off

Sexually intimate scenes in video games are never fun to watch. I don't fondly remember that scene where the big bad in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood makes out with his sister. Incest aside, it still looks wrong.

Being defenseless or otherwise too weak. I mean the whole problem there is there are no fixes or ways around it. take amnesia, You don't think I would have grabbed a pole or board to carry with me? I mean my first emotional reaction was fuck this guy I am going to break out this window and go sit outside until someone finds me.

I forget what the name of the level was but the end of the level in MW2 where your running on rooftops. No weapon and what feels like a shit load of militia behind you is scary. I can never build up the nerve to turn around and see if there are even any AIs.

Spiders. Fucking spiders. I'm looking at you, Overture.

Also, those wall human things in Dead Space. Seeing the tentacles come out of their chest and hearing their terrible screams... The first time I saw one I literally said "What the fuck?!"

Aeka's route in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.135672-Neutral-Drow-reviews-A-Drug-That-Makes-You-Dream>A Drug That Makes You Dream actually made me feel sick with dread. There was a point in the last third of the route when I would start each in-game day with that sort of sick feeling I hadn't felt since being bullied in elementary school, that never went away until I was sure she was safe and hadn't been attacked...and even just remembering the time I had to keep her from committing suicide makes my throat constrict.

I've felt shades of that protectiveness in a few other games, but that was the first and probably the strongest time.

Also, there was a point in <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.148564-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Little-My-Maid>Little My Maid where I actually felt guilty to the point of nausea.

Wandering The Wastes in Fallout 3 and any mines in Minecraft.

Any second, I expect to hear the explosion of a Super Mutant with a Missle Launcher or a Creeper...

Fellow Escapists, is there anything in games that can actually not feel well?
For me, it's being hunted by a unkillabe enemy. In Dead Space, there is one enemy, aptly named the "Hunter" that can regenerate it's limbs, so it can only be slowed. Made worse by the fact it can travel through vents, like most creatures in Dead Space.
I hate this, but it's part of what made the game so freaky!

I usually don't like it when games fail to give you the simpler moral choices. For instance, on my second playthrough of AC, I had an enemy yield to me during the second last memory sequence, but found that I had to kill him to move on. I was so angry that I just stopped playing.

The Purification in the Dark Brotherhood quests. Some of the best characterisation led up to a sickeningly emotional experience :S
