So I decided to practice some gesture drawing using a nifty figure drawing tool I found.

When I came up against this image

My problem isn't with all the drapery, I have no issue with drawing baggy clothing, blankets, robes, ext. What frightens me is that there's so much drapery, that I can hardly see her figure underneath. It's just this wave of clothing with very little to break it up (no seams, no sleeves, nothing).

Anyway, drawing enthusiast of the Escapist, what are those things that make you cringe when you take pencil to paper?

Also, I don't believe this thread has been done before, but if it has, I apologize.

Depth of physique.

Adding depth to inanimate objects isn't too hard for me, but drawing an arm reaching toward the viewer for instance is torturous for me.
Or when drawing a full body and creating a sense of depth of the head in regards to the shoulder line, or of the feet in regards to eachother.

I'm only a lowly cartoonist (though not so much at the moment), but drawing bodies is still an enormous chore for me.

Everything! I've recently decided to try and start a webcomic, but my art style is so basic that I don't even have hands. xD

I think the most intimidating for me is backgrounds, though. Especially detailed ones. I'm just not good at landscapes, and my art style does not serve them well.

Ok I'll bite, what do you prefer NOT to draw?

I have a hard time with backgrounds, too.

Mainly because it's difficult for me to breathe character to something like a desk or a chair. It's also hard to strike a balance between the big picture and the details; Too much detail and you lose sight of what you're supossed to be seeing, too little and you lose that sense of depth and texture.

I have the hardest time with faces. Whether it's eyes or mouths, I can't always get them to be symmetrical or the right size.

Faces are fun! I love drawing faces/people. I learned from a book a LONG time ago, but the basics are here.

<~~~My avatar is a drawing of my face.. a sort of idealized self portrait.

I didn't mean just faces. When I want to draw a fully-bodied character, the hardest thing for me to draw is their faces because of the limited amount of space I can do it in.

people. When your drawing a person, its so easy to mess up the proportion, the face, everything! I prefer draw environments, its way easy to not mess things up

<---- You too, huh?
indeed! I usually have a picture of myself, but as things in my life are changing, I'm sure a picture is appropriate anymore.
