Dark Souls. Witcher 2. Bacon - Those fall into the "Good, but definitely not the pure distilled essence of awesomeness incarnate".

Game of Thrones - This one falls into the "What the hell do people see in this!?" category.

Breaking Bad - This one falls into the "Watched it before it was cool (me so hipsta), and while it was OK, I don't get why such hype."

Mandatory honorable mention of Half-Life 3, of course. (I am using my powers of clairvoyance)

Lucky Star was unwatchable and in the back of my mind I think that people who said they liked it were trolling.

Also Insidious, that movie was a complete joke after you got half way through the movie.
Incorrect.
It was a joke from the beginning. It kept me and my friends laughing the entire movie.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. I was so excited to see the world revamped, the faction conflict reignited and new content being made. Well, I got those.

The revamped zones were decent (I was kind of an idiot to hype up leveling content in the first place), the faction conflict became incredibly one-sided in a number of ways for both groups, eventually leading into a horribly-written story about Deathwing, and the dungeons were overly difficult in the beginning to compensate for WotLK, to the point where they had to nerf them into oblivion. Unlike a good portion of players, I didn't mind the talent tree or race/class options.

The Hobbit. Too much comedy and cgi for me. Going from LOTR to that is like...the fuck? Why did they do that....

Also, Thorin getting his head bashed by a huge mace but it's k. Really put the last nail in the coffin for me.

Can't believe I didn't bring the Hobbit up. The Azog/Thorin slow-mo showdown was eyeroll-worthy.

Final Fantasy XIII, when it was FINALLY released it was shit, thanks impart for it going multi-platform.
It had nothing to do with going multi platform. It was more like the simplified and ironically confusing battle system, a system of corridors and Metal Gear Solid 2 levels of cutscenery. I just started playing 8 hours ago... I may have spent an hour controlling my character. Win 2 fights, run along, cutscene exposition, repeat.

Things that got over hyped but ended up a disappointment?

Isn't that the equivalent of saying "Things that caught on fire that ended up hot"
I mean if it wasn't ultimately disappointing then it wasn't "over hyped" it was "appropriately hyped"

So basically everything...

the game takes up like 4-6 Xbox 360 disks because of how big the game is, they had to cut major portions of the game in order to make the game commercially viable for the 360. had the game stayed on a PS3 exclusive the game would have been much better, with an at least decent story, and a much less linear game.

The Horus Heresy series from Black Library.
Really? I'm actually curious how old you are and how long you've been into 40k, personally I got into the hobby in my early teens, and I think the first novel came out that same year. I'll admit they are a mixed bag, some absolute stinkers, a couple gems mostly mediocre. But I can see how much of a letdown they would be if you had spent years in the hobby, and heard that the most legendary event in the lore was getting a book release.
Yeah, I've been into 40k for maybe 10 years before they came out. They've had some really good tangential stuff about the Heresy in the past.

IMHO, the BL was going downhill already, and there seemed to be a lack of effort on some people's parts with the HH series, and they got really, really dragged out. Have they released a book about the Ultimate Gate yet? Cause that's what people wanted when the thing was first mentioned.
I disagree, I have read up to Angel Exterminatus which is the 23rd book in the HH series and I really like them. The only ones that have been hit or miss for me are the anthologies of short stories. But overall I enjoy them. Seeing the different primarchs and exactly how deluded, prideful, insane and noble they are really helps me to understand how the legions progressed. Some of the books in my opinion have been too short, a few too long but really to encompass a galaxy wide civil war would be a momentous undertaking. And no they haven't gotten to the siege of Terra yet, They are telling a lot of back story about the legions and primarchs to help set the stage. I don't want to spoil anything but the first Traitor Primarch just became a Daemon-prince. The rest of them except for Lorgar, Fulgrim and Horus are just beginning to see what Chaos is really. I have been reading the books and playing the games since 2004 when I discovered WH40k Dawn of War.

The Dark Knight movies. Batman Begins was better than expected. And then the next two films were full of plotholes, unlikeable characters, boring action sequences, too much dialog that wasn't half as clever as it tried to be, yadda yadda ya.

Duke Nukem Forever must be mentioned.

The Halo sequels. All of them.

Pretty much anything by Nintendo since the Wii era. Heck, add the Wii console to the list.

Sigh... I'm going to say Spore.

I loved the idea of Spore, and I wasn't the only one at the time. And even though I got it and played it, I was always like "This isn't quite what I was led to believe it was going to be...".

Makes me sad.

Agreed, but I would add the entire 13 series. 13-2 while better the story and ending were complete garbage.

Now, I cannot believe that nobody has mentioned Diablo 3 yet, let be break it down.

Years of hype
Epic media blitz/hype prior to launch

Actual gameplay:
Play for 20 mins
Fill bag with useless loot
Die to boss (or elite group)
Sell useless loot to NPC
Play auction house simulator for 2 days

DC's New 52. Yes, there apparently are some good series, but it's nothing they couldn't do in the main universe. Now it's just a bunch of stupid stories pandering to the damned lowest common denominator...

Duke Nukem Forever. EVERY trailer promised a better game, with more elements, than that threadbare, cliched shlock-fest we got.

I suppose I'd have to say losing my virginity Spore.

That game should have been so much more than it was.

Honourable mentions go to law school and the original Final Fantasy XIV. I hear the reboot is actually rather good. Of Final Fantasy XIV, that is.

As some of the posters above and MovieBob already said, Man of Steel. Frankly before going to the theater and watching it I already conditioned myself to have my expectations to be as low as possible because there's no way Nolan, Goyer and Snyder can give the Superman movie that everybody will like. And after watching MoS I'm still disappointed with the final product (how's that even possible?) although the final battle is good visually but get's old very fast, here's hoping that Superman vs. Batman(Is that what they are still calling it?) be a better movie.

Although since the creative team is still the same, it seems I still have to further lower my already low expectations.
