Touching my forehead against a flat, hard surface makes me feel better; feeling the constant, unmoving reliability of a wall or shelf or something soothes me. Putting a plate's edge (like a hard ceramic dining plate) against my face going vertically down the valley between my nose and eye, has the same effect. No, I do not do the plate thing in public. I bet if I had OCD, I would do these two things all the time :).

It's hardly weird, but I love the sound of rain.

Nothing soothes me more than listening to this site [http://www.rainymood.com/] with my eyes closed.
Indeed, you always seem to beat me to the punch Sir/Madam Clarion.

Also, softly speaking yet masculine men seem to calm me down, like Gandolf... softly speaking women do 'other' things to me.

The sound of whispers. I duno why i like it its kinda creepy to begin with but then very relaxing. There is even a channel on youtube for it, called the WhisperingVoice

Wow, for some reason this makes my hair stand on end. It is calming though.

Seconded for Rainy Mood too.

The one thing that really calms me down when I really need it is just some time alone.
This can be hard to come by at times but it always seems to make such a difference to me.

Oh hey, I like the wall thing too. Can't say I've ever tried to do the plate thing, though.
Any way yeah, the wall soothes me. The physical and the musical.

Ohh god yeah!.... Bob... Don't stop! That is damn soothing, I'll remember him.

I can't think of anything too odd. Most my soothing things are musical. Andy Mckee's music specifically, tends to soothe me; but lots of other fingerstyle does too. I guess this, I found tonight, would be an odd clip to find soothing, being rath muso-ish:

I just like jam sessions where you know the guys are just having lots of fun and not worrying about putting over an image or anything. Major based licks, especially lydian are favourites of mine for a warm, soothing effect.

I specifically like looping a few bars of a solo or riff on my phrase trainer thingy, slowing the tempo down and playing it over and over, trying to match it as perfectly as possible. For some reason, this relaxes me more than any other other activity.

Other than that: Warm things. Electric blankets, hot showers and:

They really do!

Shameful admission.

When im stressed i watch... the Joys of painting with Bob Ross... yeah...

Hes such a nice person. His voice is so relaxing and his technique is so beautiful. His entire attitude radiates calm and collected. You cant help but feel serene watching this man paint. I cant even draw and i really enjoy it. I really suggest as many people as possible check it out.

Wow, I could actually feel my blood pressure dropping as I watched that. It was just amazing watching the image evolve on the canvas.

Personally if I need soothing and I don't have time for a walk, I love to listen to Bach's Toccata and Fugue. Particularly from about 4:05 onwards in this video

OT: As well as the aforementioned rain, one thing that soothes me is.....aircraft. Seriously. If I'm lying in bed early in the morning and a helicopter or aeroplane flies overhead, the sound of the rotors/engines will just knock me right back to sleep.
Did...did you just take me on a date? Any way what relaxes me is the sound of the clickity clack of a train. i know it sounds weird, but I've lived next to train tracks so long the sound has become soothing to me.

I've got some more. Sitting outside on a hunting/camping trip in the cold next to a big fire and just staring up at the sky. That's probably me at my most peaceful.

Well, when I really want to relax, I make myself a nice cup of tea, and I watch an anime called mushi-shi.

The episodes are all individual stories so I can watch any of them whenever I want, and they all absolutely engross me with their interesting stories, beautiful visuals and laid back atmosphere.

I find the best time to watch it is right before I go to bed.

YANA. If the CIA was serious about MK Ultra and mind control experiments, they would use Bob Ross tapes. That man could turn me into a Manchurian Candidate.

Since I was a child when someone gives me help or instructions one on one (Teacher, Tutor, Peer) I completely zone out and almost fall asleep, It's just the most natural and relaxing feeling I've ever had.

Also, When I was dealing with very bad anxiety a few years ago, I got the idea to get some plastic tubs and fill them with rice. I'd lie down and place my feet in one and each hand in another and just grip with my toes and fingers. Moving my digits through them and feeling the resistance and fluidity really help me calm myself.

Every time I utter to myself "Everthing's gonna be alright".

Yeah, bland I know. But it eliminates my stress quite efficiently.

Ready this list of classy suggestions and trying them all. I am no longer struggling with this annoying math problem as -hey! things will be all right.

Personally, I find this song rather relaxing and helps me think rather well when played in the background. It may just be the softness of the song at half volume or the steady jam of it, I don't know. Whenever I'm in a bad mood, this usually lightens me up.

The sound of water, especially when I'm not actually getting wet often does the trick. Rain, water near docks, bath running, shower etc (obviously the latter two aren't of the "not getting wet" variety).

Iroh's voice from the Last Air Bender. Doesn't even matter what he's talking about, that tone has some sort of feel-good vibe that's very relaxing.

The greatest though? Towel forts. I love, love, love towel forts. Combine that with the sound of running water and I'm happy as a clam...whose shell is made of towels.

Listening to classical music, but that's not too odd. I've been listening to lots of Gustav Mahler and David Maslanka. Mahler's 2nd and 3rd symphonies, Maslanka's 4th in particular.

For some bizarre reason I found listening to certain types of j-pop relaxes me. I have no idea why but it just does. If I listen to it while working on math problems I find it keeps me calmer (and my profanity usage decreases significantly). This one has been very useful while studying physical chemistry.

In truth maybe it's just the background nice that's relaxing.
