Hey,

In DC on an internship atm and need some advice from the local people on what to do in downtime. I realise that this is a gaming website so before everyone tells me to stay in and game my laptop would have a hard time doing that :p

Visiting the White Buildings, the Smithsonian and looking at the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery is the only things I recommend.

Well I've been here as a tourist before so I've seen those kind of things wondering more about cool places to hang out or Washington specific stuff to do.

Like with any city, it all depends on your scene -

Georgetown and Dupont: Can be pricey, bars and restaurants, fratty and preppy types abound (though less in Dupont), lots of young people

Capitol Hill: Quieter than Georgetown, bars filled with cheap beer and interns like yourself

U Street: A number of restaurants (some even worth visiting), bars and clubs. The three or four hipsters in DC may possibly be found here. If you like indie music, chances are the bands will play at either the Black Cat, the 9:30 Club or the Velvet Lounge; all of which are around this area.

Adams Morgan: Lots of dives and gin joints, with correspondingly loud, drunk patrons. Good fun for the adventurous and those who enjoy the occasional brawl.

I went there a few months ago. Like many have recommended, visit the memorials, Smithsonian, White House, and Dupont Circle. Oh and question, is the Jefferson Memorial still under construction? When I went it was under construction.
