Things we hate that seem odd

Ever have something you hate that you have to admit doesn't really make sense if you think about it? Like a tickle phobia. I don't hate it but a lot of folks do, which unless it has to do with abuse, I've also seen as strange.

Personally I'm paranoid of bees and any other form of stinging insect. Really I don't know why, they're part of nature and I see them all the time and to my recollection, I've never been stung by them. I guess I'm just scared of them. I also hate any cooked vegetable. Well save for potatoes, but otherwise, it doesn't matter how much I generally like a veggie, the minute you put it in a pot or a can I don't want anything to do with it. To me, cooked veggies are like eating flavored sponges or soap. Again, I don't know why this is, I love broccoli, beets and carrots, I just hate them cooked.

I have an unusually specific fear of heights that is limited solely to steep drops with tiny railings. Airplanes? No problem. Tallulah Gorge lookout point? Can't get near the edge.

I'm going to chalk that down to "irrational phobias."

I don't have any oddities like your veggie thing that spring to mind, but with experience working fast food I am familiar with one exhibited by an oddly large number of people:

Ordering a burger without onions and then swapping the fries for onion rings. Wha?

I love raw veg, they taste great and they have a really satisfying crunch to them. But you cook them, they lose most of their flavour and are just unpleasant to bite into.

I suppose that brings me to weird thing I hate for no real reason. And that is, food that feels too soft in my mouth, its the strangest thing. If food, for example a really ripe banana or over cooked veg enters my mouth then I just want to be sick, I know what it is, I know it can be nothing more harmful than an overly soft banana but the texture of it makes me want to puke.

As a kid I would literally puke if I ate creamed corn. No, no real evidence of an allergy to any of the ingredients, I just hated the smell, taste and texture that much.

I'm not trying to get political here, but I do have the paradoxical mindset that people should be allowed to own guns, but the country would be better off if they were outlawed and anyone who is not a hunter who owns a gun better be either a civil servant or living alone. Personally I've found myself to be a pretty solid marksman, but I would never want to own a gun; I'd rather take my chances with a baseball bat.

I love almost any meat out there, but I generally won't go for a steak. I've only had one steak in my entire life that I've truly enjoyed completely and it was at an extremely really fancy, expensive, gourmet restaurant celebrating something my mom did. It had a bleu cheese crust... soooooooo goooooood. And before you think it, no, that steak didn't ruin any lesser steak for me; I disliked steak a long time before that one came along. I love beef, but I just don't like your average steak.

I generally don't like lemon iced tea of any kind... unless it comes in a can. Even the exact same brand in a bottle will be kind of gross to me, but in a can I can drink it for days.

I have irrational fear of most insects. My general rule of thumb (heh) is if they're smaller than my thumb I won't freak out but any bigger and they can fly? I just can't handle it. Roaches and moths are particularly frighting to me. I was once kept out of my house when I was younger for almost 4 hours because when I went to the door there was a moth the size of my face on there and I froze. Just waited until it flew away.

I'm somewhat afraid of heights but as long as I'm not looking over an edge I can handle being in a high place. I was also afraid to eat onions all through my childhood and most of my teen years because the texture and crunch would make me gag so I avoided them like the plague. Now I can't get enough of em.

Also, I'm strangely not afraid of spiders. Even if they're huge like a tarantula, which I've had sneak into my home before. I don't want them touching me by any means but I don't go into panic mode when I see them. I truly believe they will mind their own business as long as you stay away. Insects though... they will find a way to fly into your face or crawl on you.

Heights I can understand but the insect thing really bothers me. They are harmless for the most part but I just cannot get it past my head. Hopefully I'll miraculously get over it in a couple of more years.

Same here, I get that whole "vacuum pulling me toward the edge" feeling and everything. Never had a problem with glass elevators, rock climbing, airplanes, climbing trees, etc.

I have an irrational fear of horses, to the point that a newborn foal wobbling towards me scared me a lot more than being chased by a very angry Rhodesian ridge-back.

Also, seeing things in pain and not being able to help makes me angry, for reasons I don't understand. My cat has a habit of catching its claws on things when it stretches and every time I hear him squeal in distress it makes my blood boil. Then I feel immensely sad and guilty and end up smothering him with food and affection for the next half-hour.

Strangely, I can't stand butter or margarine that's been spread on bread, putting it in my mouth makes me want to throw up. This is odd since I can eat butter or margarine on it's own (though it doesn't taste great) and I don't mind mayonnaise, mustard or anything else being spread on my bread, so have no-one idea why I can't eat that particular combo. It's very annoying since sandwiches you buy when you're out are almost all buttered up by default.

And buttered excessively too. I don't hate butter, but I think it's a downgrade to any sandwich and with the inch they often spread on those you buy is not something I want there...

I don't really have anything myself that I can think of.

At work we only butter like 3 out of 20 or so sandwiches we make, or you could try subway?

Everything has mayonaise on though.

Mayonaise is fucking revolting.
