NCAA Football was always a lot of fun. I liked breaking the games by making quarterbacks who could outrun every other player on the field and then optioning my way up for 80 yard touchdowns.

Annnnnnd as a simple observation, how come nobody thinks of Homophobia as a y'know, genuine phobia? Like people have Arachnophobia and such and they can't help feeling deathly afraid of spiders even if they KNOW said spider can't hurt them. Nope just offhandedly dismiss people with "oh it's 2013, stop being such a homophobe lol"

I know Relish already hit this point, but I'm just going to iterate that while I have arachnophobia, I don't actively hate spiders and try to infringe their rights as arachnids in my home. Sure, if I get a creepy crawly one hanging out in my personal space I'll give it a good whack, but that goes for any insect or arachnid, as it would stand for most people regardless of their sexuality.

EDIT: To clarify a little, 'homophobia' as a normal phobia, I'm basically fine with. I don't care if someone just feels uncomfortable seeing two men kissing or something. But that's not generally how 'homophobia' as a word is used.

OT: Reboots and spinoffs.

I can't tell you how many times I saw people hating DmC and Metal Gear Rising because of "how different" they were from previous games in their overarching franchises. Spinoffs in particular get an undeserved bad wrap. If it weren't for spinoffs, Persona would never have existed. Devil May Cry wouldn't exist, because it was originally going to be a spinoff of Resident Evil. And then people do things like lump Shadow the Hedgehog into the greater Sonic franchise as an example of why the games suck. Oh, that brings me to another one.

Sonic the Hedgehog.

Especially around here he seems to be a very popular punching bag, even though the last two (or three, depending on your point of view) 3D games have been pretty darn good.

And World of Warcraft, which is constantly decried by people who stopped playing years ago or people who never played it in the first place and just hate it because of its reputation. You know, mostly just games in general, to be honest. Even here, on a gaming website, I feel endlessly outnumbered by the sheer volume of negativity being constantly thrown at video games.

On a serious note, freedom of expression and freedom to do, well anything really, as long as you aren't harming another sapient being. I really dislike authority figures telling me what to do and so I'd be a hypocrite to advocate enforcing anything more than minimal controls on people.

On a less serious note... the British monarchy, I've always loved the history and traditions of Kings and Queens and I genuinely believe that a monarchy is the best choice for a ceremonial head of state. For Queen and Country I'll defend Her Majesty tirelessly!

Two key things in gaming I will always defend:

Pokemon for it's originality, fun, simplicity, skill, and additions.

Halo for it's originality, fun, simplicity, skill, and additions.

Both titles are always hammered for certain aspects that piss me off. Pokemon is "bad because I hate this design" or "Pokemon died at this generation" and I fucking hate hearing that. It's people who dismiss something without even bothering to try it that piss me off. Then there is Halo which gets flak for updating it's original formula and somehow being a "Grey, brown, gritty, generic shooter" at which case I say to that person, "Fuck you, are you colorblind or something? the Halo franchise remains one of the most colorful shooters to date, not to mention it stands proud and tall as something far more different than anything on the market to this day.

I'd like to think I'm rational enough not to defend something regardless of context and the situation.

But there's probably several issues I'd still kneejerk on and defend no matter what.

Stuff like game violence not causing real violence, human rights applying to everyone even if they're part of a minority, social policies such as universal healthcare and education as well as unemployement grants (or whatever they're called, getting money from the government if you're down on your luck).

mostly this. there are too many damn shades of grey elsewhere that it is hard for me to define what i would truly always defend, besides the above statement.

Sex positivism is the noun for the more commonly known sex positive [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_positive] movement. Basically, sex positivism is the idea that sex is an inherently positive thing, sex negativism is that sex is an inherently negative thing, and sex neutralism is that sex is an inherently neutral thing.

The reason I defend all three simultaneously is that I see a difference between personal and societal attitudes towards sex. I support only sex positivism as a societal attitude, but I support all three as personal attitudes. I believe that people should have the right to see sex as inherently positive, negative or neutral, but that the healthiest and most beneficial of all three attitudes to adopt on a societal level is sex positivism.
