Cut back on the HMs
I see this a lot and for the most part I agree with it. It's annoying having to carry one or two HM slaves around to cut down trees and smash rocks, but they act as a staggering device. It's hard (though not impossible) to get through Rock Tunnel without using Flash. At times you will need to use Cut or Surf or Strength to get where you need to be to continue the game. Before then, you can't go that way and thus aren't at risk at running into Level 68 pokémon while you're still rocking your level 7 Charmander.

They're a natural way to control the difficulty curve of your opponents.

Would like to see them do something so I don't have to carry around two HM slaves though (Lapras is awesome for it. Surf, Strength, Rock Smash and Waterfall. Mmmhmmm.)

1) A less complex and more balanced multiplayer system.
2) More new Pokemon (I understand that adding 150 new is difficult, but it shouldn't be impossible).
3) An easier advancement system (less exp needed/fights giving more exp).
4) Much more freedom to do what I want to do. Although to be honest, I wouldn't really mind if they did this.
5) Alternate storyline - e.g. Choosing to do contests instead of Elite 4. I would still use the original "beat the gym leaders, beat the bad guys between gyms, then beat the elite 4" storyline myself, but the alternate contest storyline would attract a larger audience.
6) Cool attacks (like.... Deathlaser or.... Falcon Punch).
7) Cameos. I want to be able to play Pokemon against Mario.

That's about it. Sure, point 3 is most likely me being lazy, but you must admit that levelling up (especially in the end stages of the game, between the 8th Gym and the Elite 4) is a chore (although not before level 10). However, I do tend to over-level my Pokemon (usually, I go into the 1st gym with a full group of 12 to 16s, and I do the Elite 4 with a full group of level 60+ Pokemon), so perhaps it's not as big a problem as I think it is.

It's not letting me quote. :/

But to the guy who said water pokemon should be able to Defog, I thought that Bird(Flying) pokemon are the ones who are usually able to Defog? I believe the message for it is "Pokemon X starting flapping it's wings!" or am I completely mistaken?

Back on topic, I think they should expand the game world, but not for nostalgic value. Give me more cities, but not every one has to have a gym; just put a lot of sidequests in, more ways to get the rare Pokemon. The ability to go back to older cities in Silver felt like a cop-out to get more sales, rather than an integral part of the game.

Cross breading (of course not every pokemon would be able to breed with every other because if each one made a new pokemon there would be an endless amount but i'm rambling. The outside of battle things like fly and stuff should just be based on wether or not the pokemon looks like it can do it or not i.e if it has wings and isn't half your size then you can jump on its back and fly it. Being able to refuse trainer battles (bar ones with like "insert evil organization name here") but i guess that would take some of the challenge out of the game. Get rid of some of the old, pointless pokemon that everyone is sick of. New Story (of course). Get rid of the whole having to store them in the computer, since the first game they have made great advancements in pokemon technology but nobody has been working on a portable transfer device.

maybe a completly new story. like instead of a guy going out to do the gym challenge and beat the elite four, you could be the gym leader in a gym somewhere. i hear viridian has a hard time holding down a leader.
also a new battle system would be great. im thinking an ATB like something out of final fantasy. this would make the speed skill less useless
Speed isn't useless at all.

How about the ability to fucking refuse trainer battles? I'm sick of that part of every Pokemon game where I'm at low health and I'm trekking back to the center without Fly and some asshat challenges me to a fight and I CAN'T REFUSE!!!

Boom! Half my money...GONE!

A customisable avatar. Not everyon wants to play a 10yr old in a fucking cap. It is supposed to be an RPG after all. Just a few different outfits and hair styles would make me happy. Oh ye and gym leaders with balanced teams i never liked their mono type teams it makes them too easy to defeat.
Honestly I always find single-type gyms the hardest. I ALWAYS kick my rival's arse, because my parties always excel at fighting diversity types. It's too easy.

I like them as they are. I WOULD say that it'd be cool to go on a PokeQuest for something more important than gym badges, but that could end in something so potentially devastatingly awful I dare not ask.

I don't think anything with the battle system should be changed, as far as structure. Maybe minor changes. But the turn-based stuff works great as it is.

I must be one of the only people who enjoyed what Pokemon Colosseum and XD did in their respective stories. Catching corrupted Pokemon to purify them while taking down an evil organization. Sure, the games had their flaws but at least they were something different.

Also not having to run around on a 2D grid was a nice change of pace. It's the fourth generation already, Game Freak, over a decade since your massively successful Red/Blue. Maybe now you can think about moving to actual 3D?
