Well, lately I've been thinking what I want to do with my life. I've lost my part time job, school is starting again, and I just have no real goal.

There is a funeral home a mile or so away from my house and everyday I drive past it. I'm thinking of going in and asking about an internship.

So, Escapist users, do you think I should start the life of a creeper?

Do you really WANT that? I know we're in a recovery, but shouldn't you try to focus more on something you like? I'd say intern at somewhere else, because if you get into a different interest, then your long internship was pointless.

If it's what you want go for it.

I wouldn't be able to personally, due to my fear of corpses.

That sounds fun

I volunteered as a mortician when I was in high school, but couldn't because of my age.

They did show me around the place and I saw 6 dead bodies.

Weird experience.

I have no idea what I want to do either, i've not really bothered looking though and I will probably wait to see how I do in my exams.

Do what you want, but do you really want to do it or are you doing it for the sake of it?

I wasn't a normal lad. I dreamed of being a spy, an author and an old western undertaker, so it's something I was interested in. But as I grew older, that faded. and lately it's been popping back into my noggin.

I took the liberity of reading your profile details OP, i am guessing you lost your part time job working at a libary?

Well, it also says on your profile that your a student, hoping to get a BS (bachelor of science i presume?) in lingustics and a minor in French. Based on this infomation, i don't think you need to worry about internships and such- just work on getting a good degree and once youve done that, then get a job from it. If your stuck with what you want in life, start researching what people do with linguistics degrees. What you may want to do, once you have your degree is do some translation work in a foregin country and see how you find that. You could be a English-French translator/guide in France. Or you go to to London (which has a large French population and a hell of a lot of French students and tourists) and do translation work for the French there, whilst having all the convences of living in a country which speaks English. I hear that EU translators get paid a fortune for the work they do, however you may have to be a European citizen to work for the EU. Regardless, the language carrer track seems more suited for the degree your studying. This sort of work seems more relivant to your degree that funeral care does.

Edit: I don't think the American education system is VASTLY different to England's. Granted though there are differences which i may not know about or have misunderstood, what i just described to you is what most English students do at this stage of our lives.
