I got it during the steam sale ^.^

I got a lot of games so I haven't gotten around to it but it doesn't look too bad when I went through training.

For the love of all that's holy take the rocket launcher

If not it will be ages before you pick one up (or at least it was for me 2nd play through)

I hate shooters and I love this game, there are multiple paths, explore take time and enjoy it is an awesome game

Oh and you
CAN save your brother,
but don't try that 1st play through
So curious what happens if you save him... Must save him. Also, that is pretty spoilery.
....Not really it's fairly obvious from the start about mission 2 it's clear that's going down BUT

And it changes fairly little like most things, you get a few more rewards but the actual doing of it was a pain

and a hell of a lot of meta gaming involved or was the way I did it, knowing whats about to go down I saved all the mines, gas and explosive, with the intent on taking as many of them down with me as possible (it's a good story so I felt it when they killed him 1st time) no idea you could win, you need to be a good shot and ready to head shot the men in black left right and center and mine out the entire building entrance - eventually the game kinda fades to black as if you've been taken out when you come too he's still alive
Going to do it right now. I am reviewing your quote before I do it
Edit: How do you bloody kill them? I loaded a light tank rocket launcher, 4 LAMS 5 sniper rounds and 5 assault rifle rounds into one guy... nothing!

Anyways. BUY IT!

First level is freakin hard and will kick you in the balls...that is, when you beat it, everything else seems like an easy piece of shit afterwords.

I say replay it. I'm doing so right now.

I actually just started playing this as well since I was dog sitting at a relative's house and needed something to occupy myself.

I'm playing it on normal and for the first level I found it's incredibly effective to sneak up behind people just by crouching (the default key is awkward, I recommend switching it to Shift)

Then if you hit them with a melee weapon before they notice you, it does much more damage (and usually takes them out in one hit) which helps you save ammo. I think the crowbar, shock stick, and baton all do comparable damage, so I recommend just using the baton and trashing everything else. As far as I've seen, you can't sell your extra equipment, so there's no point in carrying anything you won't use.

Another method is finding an object to hide behind while your pistol accuracy builds (if you haven't noticed, the aiming reticle shrinks the longer you stand still), then shoot them in the head (which, again, if they don't see you, it should kill them in one shot).

Other tips: Use TNT crates to blow up laser grids and cameras, pick them up, crouch to put them down safely, then get far away and shoot them.

Hack the turret at the door and use it to kill the patrolling robot

If you start lockpicking/multitooling and switch to your inventory screen for the duration it'd take to pick it, you'll only use 1 device.

And in the beginning, if you downgrade Pistol to "untrained" you'll get the points refunded, but when you start playing it'll be trained.

Here is another tip. Cheat and insta-kill that cheap unkillable men in black...

Edit: Tried cheats. Not even they work. o_O

The AI is getting too smart.

Edit 2: The cheat kills everyone but the men in black...

Again, still have no idea how leveling works. Is it based on how many peeps I take out?
I'm sure it's been said before, but the way you upgrade skills has a bit of an esoteric nature to it. You earn 'skill points' for completing objectives, both primary and secondary, for finding alternate infiltration paths to your objective, or just overall exploration. Here's an example. On the second mission after liberty island, you're tasked to infiltrate an NSF terrorist base. You could just charge in the front door with the marines guns blazing, but if you talk to the child, you'll learn there's a secret passage behind the soda machine. Give the child some candy and he'll tell you the code. Punch the code into the keypad beside the soda machine, and when it opens up and you walk inside you get skill points for discovering an alternate entry. You can also upgrade your biotics, which are separate from skills, by finding bio augmentation canisters, which look like glowing blue cylinders. These are often found in the world in obscure locations, so it pays to explore most of the time. Chances are you'll acquire both skill points and a canister at the same time for going off the beaten path. For example, that side passage i just talked about can lead to a control room with a safe. Picklock that safe open and there's an augmentation canister inside.

As for getting past the first level, i strongly recommend you stick to stealth. Don't engage enemies with lethal firearms unless you're up close and melee just isn't an option. Use your crossbow and be very patient. Wait for the reticle to close in around the mark. A crossbow will knock someone out in a single shot, but it can take a while for the tranq to take effect. The best advice i can offer is to not go in through the front door where a drone and turrets are waiting to tear you to pieces. You want to go around the statue of liberty to the back where there are big metal containers piled on top of each other. Look for a ladder and use that to climb up them. Eventually you will be able to climb to the top of the containers and hop onto the statue itself, bypassing a lot of the confrontation at the front door. (Agent Hermann is in a jail by the front door though, if you feel like doing a rambo rescue). You'll find gas grenades planted near the top of lady liberty, and you must rush to activate them to disarm them, then activate them again to pick them up. They're surprisingly effective at knocking out people, so don't be afraid to use them to knock out a group of terrorists in one go. Lastly, trying to be as non-lethal as possible is the desired outcome of the first mission; your brother will berate you if you are too trigger happy.
