I think you should get a better computer; I've got about half a 465GB on my computer, I just don't think 75 is enough. Admirably I don't know a lot about computers but that's just my opinion.
You are definitely right about getting a new computer...

...my family is stubborn about computers. We don't get a new one until the old one is at the point of complete death

I'm not going to get into my "i've been looking for over 3 years" speech...

...I don't need to explain myself to you anyways

Oh it was the same with me, we've still got the first computer, but it runs slow as hell XD

Ok so i'm back with another computer crisis that I need help with...

So I went to install a game onto my desktop (WoW) and I discover that my hard drive has been crippled and is only left with 13.6 GB out of about 75 GB. I really wanna install this game (WoW) onto my computer, but I don't know how I can free up space. I've already gone through my desktop and picture folders, going mad with deleting fever...

What other ways are there to free up space...that don't require reformatting the drive or reinstalling windows...?
are you left with 13.6 gigs of free space or you 70 GB turned into a 13.6?

if its the first case then use ccleaner or cleanup! (with the exclamation mark) and, how big WoW is?

if is the second maybe you have a corrupted partiton or sectors in this case you would need more specialized help to restore the partition or sectors, or you could just format the drive.

just to check, does your hard drive has more than one partition and are you trying to instal the game in the smaller one?

three years!? wow, sucks to be you, but whatever the reason if that's the case then playing a game with a subscription based payment system seems like a monumentally stupid idea to me

and the whole three years thing is weird because I initially had pity on you as you might have lost your job due to that ol' recession thingy, now I don't know what to think...

I'm left with 13.6, not the other one. WoW takes up 15 GB (which isn't bad compared to other MMO games *cough Age of Conan's 40 GB install *cough*)...

ok, anyway, I noticed you said your family only gets a new computer when the other breaks, well if the hard drives full does that not qualify as it needing to be replaced? I mean it's basically unusable

uninstall games you don't play any more, or don't cheap out on a tiny hard drive, seriously. I mean I could probably get a 75GB hard drive for a tenner.

and shouldn't getting a job be a priority rather than playing WoW if you have no money?
If I could get a job, I would...
Well, if not, you could always play Fiesta! Between getting referred and the freebies Warcry's giving out on it, you'd have a cozy start...
[small]Sad attempt to get someone to play with, eh?[/small]

I wouldn't necessarily call it unusable. It's just a piece of shit...

ok, try this.

My Computer > Click your local disk > click the downloads folder > hover your mouse over your software folder > Delete and replace it.

I was wondering wtf was taking up so much space. I looked all over my computer and found nothing. I then hovered over my Software folder and found it was taking up 16 gigs. I looked in it and everything was invisible, so I deleted the whole folder.

Edit: My computer was not messed up after I deleted it.

There's probably tons of little ways you can free up space but I'd guess that the 2 main ones (not related to stuff like games, movies, etc) are:

1. Temporary internet files - adjust how much space this takes up, can't remember the exact numbers but by default I think it goes to about 10% of your total HD space. It fills up pretty fast.

Go to control panel->internet options, then pick 'settings' under the 'temporary internet files' section and set it to something low. I just leave it at 1 meg.

2. Compress old files/system restore. Either one of these can hog up a lot of space. Look them up on google, I'm too lazy to remember how to address either one of them to free up space. It's not that hard, though.
