Third-Party Hardware

I was recently excavating the dark recesses of my entertainment center when I stumbled upon a third-party battery pack/charge cord set I had bought a while ago. Too bad the thing never fucking worked. I don't take kindly to third-party hardware, as I've had a couple bad experiences. So tell me, Escapist, what is your opinion on third-party stuff? What are some experiences you've had?

If you're thinking I should've added a poll to this topic, the reason I didn't was because polls encourage people to vote and leave, rather than discuss. This is a forum, after all.

Now mingle, my children. (I think I might end every OP from here on out with that. I like it.)

I usually avoid it, as it is crap.

Exceptions exist though: Third-party Gamecube memory cards could store a lot more than the official Nintendo ones.

Ehhh. It was good when I was young. Now I have slightly more money I can afford real stuff. Also I had bad experiences with third party hardware.
Back when the majority of the gaming population weren't idiots?

Well considering I was one of those "dirty" ps1 gamers back then. Not through choice I was bought the ps1 one my bro got the N64. Still I got to play Crash bandicoot spyro and ape escape all the gems of my childhood. I forgot where I was going with this?
I seem to have forgot about PS1 and 2 hardware. Both consoles had great third-party support. Now, I think people seem to put little effort into making quality products because they can cater to drunken frat boys who feel the need to get online and flaunt their greatness. Third-party hardware appeals to them because they need the extra money for booze, weed, condoms, and Ramen.

And don't start mentioning those games, or I'm going to start tearing up. *sniff*

I've never really had any problems with third party hardware. I actually had a third party PS2 controller and it was durable as all hell. Took forever to destroy.

Now I tend to want the official things. Especially official 360 controllers. (too bad they're so freaking expensive) The third party ones just look wonky.

This. TP PS2 crap was actually fairly reliable. I had multiple TP controllers as well as a TP multi-tap, and they all worked fine. It just seems like they don't care about making quality products anymore.

Most Wii hardware is third party (multi-function centres, charger kits, sports kits, etc), same goes for the DS. Most of it is pretty good. But most of it looks like ass.

I'd never really used any before recently winning a MadCatz steering wheel and pedals thingie.

I've used it for Forza and NFS Shift, it does the job it is required to do... as for buying one, well if I were to buy a wheel I think I would go for a slightly more expensive one with a clutch and better (less plastic) build quality.
