If you have a decent PC or even an older game rig you can run the game in PSXE with filtering and other options that will improve its graphics.

Emulation takes so much away from the charm of the original. I prefer to own the games I play for the PSX. I can't fathom how you could comfortably play any of these games on anything but a Dualshock controller.

Besides, this way I don't get that stupid video shake that literally every Vagrant Story ROM already gave me.
It's pretty easy to hook up a PS3 comtroller to the PC. Literally one program.

That requires me buying a PS3 or PS3 controller. I have my Xbox controller for my PC.

And besides, the Dualshock 3 is crap compared to the Dualshock 2.

The best sword fighting game of all time. Sorry SW Jedi Knight. One hit kills. Limb damage that lead to drawbacks (having to wield a 2 handed sword in one hand poorly), and no super special move BS like that has gotten into most fighting games barring Tekken.
Amen to this. I think BB1 is one of the best fighting games ever designed. I found it to be superior to the sequel, though I did like the addition of more characters and weapons.

OT: I've heard of about half of these games, but only played a few of them. I played the hell out of Bioforge and it's sad to hear that they would have done sequels if it had sold better.

I found Oni to be quite enjoyable, though the controls could be a bit clunky at times. It was HARD too once you got near the end of the game. I never did beat it.

I loved Tenchu as well and enjoyed the first two sequels. After that, the series kinda went downhill and just felt like they were cashing in on the name. The Wii game has some interesting elements to it, but it's really weird to control with a Wii-mote. Because of all the sequels, though, I don't think I'd consider this a forgotten game.

How about Crusader: No Remorse (and No Regret)? I had a lot of fun with those two games.

It gets the functionality of the DualShock2 done. I honestly don't get why people hate on the DS3 so much. I get why they don't like it but it wasn't garbage compared to the DS 2. My buttons were in the same place and the d-pad was and still is the best when it comes to fighting games.

That being said, buying a PS3 controller is the only way you're going to get that nostalgic fell in your hands. I suggested it because I'd do the same thing. To each there own I suppose.

I'm sad that No One Lives Forever didn't get a nod.
That's a great call. I never understood why that game isn't remembered more than it is - original, well written, great gameplay - it just didn't catch on.

I found my old disks for it just the other day. I might just dust them off and see if they still work.
The installer doesn't run on modern OSs, but you can just rip the CDs to a folder and it will work. I played it not too long ago for someone who had never heard of it.

It's the weight and the R2/L2 buttons. It just doesn't "feel" right.

The best way to get that "nostalgic" feel, though, is to play on the original system :p (Or the PS2 because I don't have a PS1...)

Cool little thing about Sacrifice, just out of curiosity I tried out its online multiplayer last year to see if I could find any players and... I actually did, people still play this absolute gem of a game!!

Also had a few warm nostalgic feelings while going through that list, man Oni was bananas back then, the gameplay actually aged wonderfully now that I think of it, was one of the first game I remember playing that didn't have the standard tank controls. Freedom Fighters also still remains one of the best third person shooters I've ever played, such a pity it never really took off.

Kinda bummed that Scrapland didn't get included here (still too new maybe?), one of American Mcgee's best work if you ask me, that game was just overflowing with robot-y charm and had a pretty good story with some great arcade spaceship gameplay, doubt it ever really got noticed though.

Carnage Heart, Omega Boost, Legend of Dragoon, Fallen Haven and Space Hulk 2: Vengeance of the Blood Angels.

The list isn't bad, but add the above and suddenly it's 500% better.

Oni was a great game, I still have my copy. The controls were frustrating, but I really enjoyed it!

Yeah, freedom fighters, Eternal Darkness, some really obvious ones and some very obscure games. I'd just add... well I'm a fan of a lot of forgotten games.

Parasite Eve
Stronghold (original D&D version)
(let's go way back)
Elevator Action
Gunsmoke
Pigskin Footbrawl
Yar's Revenge
(ok, done with the wayback machine, how about forgotten franchises)
Tecmo's Deception series
Pandemic's Mercenaries
Vigilante 8
(and speaking of vehicular combat, where's my nex-gen version of)
Rogue Trip
Quarantine

Some of those, obviously more obscure than others. I'm guessing most of you could identify Mercenaries and Yar's Revenge, but I'd also guess few could remember Tecmo's Deception (2 - Trapt, the first one was terrible) or guess which Quarantine I was talking about.

The best of the list would probably go to Deception, I can't believe something hasn't tried to revive this. The story and dialogue were crap, but no other game has ever had such fun (and totally sadistic) gameplay.

Here's a wayback I'd guess few remember... Noctropolis. I'd like to see a sequel, Noctropolis 2: The Power of Ultimate Lure.

I had a blast playing Return Fire at my friend's place once upon a time, and I'd forgotten what it was called until today. This is truly a grand occasion.

Beyond that, I always support Mischief Makers getting the praise it deserves.

Did anyone really forget about Eternal Darkness?

Oni was great and I still firmly believe Sacrifice was one of the best games ever made.

I would like to turn attention to the ChuChu Rocket section...
How this frenetic combination of Pac Man, Bomberman, Lemmings and Hungry Hippos failed to become a continually updated gaming staple is beyond us. Designed by Sonic co-creator Yuji Naka it's a fast-paced maze puzzler in which players have to place arrows on the floor to direct a line of mice into rockets so they can escape the giant cats. In the four-player mode, participants can also use arrows to direct the feline enemies toward competitors, making for fraught, hugely tense encounters. [...]
Keeheehee..

Also, I've heard of a few on that list, though sadly I've only played The Warriors. It's definitely a game I would heartily recommend, even though part of why I like it so much might be because of the time at and the place in and the person with who/which I played it with. All in all, it has a great atmosphere and good gameplay mechanics. Bundles of fun in co-op.

I've seen some of these other games played in videos (like ChuChu Rocket, Vib Ribbon, Tenchu, Return Fire and Oni, FreQuency, Freedom Fighters, Eternal Darkness etc), and most of them look like stepping stones to later better games that overshadowed them (like Tenchu, Oni, FreQuency, Freedom Fighters) and some are games that are probably fun in short bursts, but for me as a gamer who is not particularly noteworthy for his accomplishments, and thus would see not much pleasure in seeking virtuosity in these games, and would not hold much long-term value (like ChuChu Rocket and Vib Ribbon in particular, despite the fact that Vib Ribbon has a really interesting, fantastic art style and I have played a similar game on iOS, called Lub vs Dub).
