How about old posters with an actual post count not having to fill them out at all? Seems silly that when you have a few 100 posts and are clearly not a bot that you need to complete the things.

*sigh* This has already been discussed to death, but whatever.

The mods are currently testing two differenct CAPTCHA systems (on all the non-PubClub members). One is the traditional hard-to-read type, the other is the ones using ads and making you copy text or answer a question. They have introduced both because of the amount of complatins from people who can't read the scrambly-letter ones. They're tallying up the number of fails from each type, and then planning to implement the most successful one.

And it's not like it's on every post - one of the mods estimated it showing up roughly once per day per user, and someone else said roughly every 20 posts. Hardly strenuous.

My whole thing is this. To force your (the company whose ad I'm seeing) slogan or company doctrine into my subconscious by requiring me to transcribe said statement in order to voice my opinion on the topic at hand seems a bit underhanded. I know that thems the rules and I will follow. However, I filled out the captcha so here I am voicing my opinion.

Edit: I'd rather deal with hard to read text than ads any day of the week.

I have had to fill out ad captchas for 4 of the last 6 posts i have posted, all within an hour.

Don't pretend you're trying to cut down on spam, Escapist. You're FORCING us to look at and acknowledge ads. It's a ridiculous practice.
