So I've been playing Dragon age 2 a lot since I got it. I've tried out every class and decided on Rogue for my first playthrough, I'm currently on the second act now and love the game. I started thinking about playing a female warrior, and now I'm starting to lose any desire to play as my current character that I'm already spent a big chunk of time on. I actually get this a lot in rpgs with class choices, no matter how little there are. Now I'm thinking of starting over AGAIN. Even though I've started over around 3 times now.

Does anyone ever get this? It's a big hassle, I'm really bipolar when it comes to my rpg characters. One minute I want to be this class, then I want to be another. This always manages to ruin my enjoyment of rpgs. I don't think I've had it this bad before though.

Happens to some people. Only rarely to me, and only with roguelikes (which I recommend for this purpose. Lots of choice, and your character is killed off regularly anyway).

I have a few friends who, faced with Arcanum's customization, got about 20 characters or more to the starting town and no further.

Start a game with each and then bounce between them. I can't imagine wanting to make a 4th though.

You can always play as another class on a different save file, then switch between them depending on what mood takes you. Nothing wrong with that. I never feel the need to change class mid-game but I usually end up playing through the game at least once for most of the classes so what's the difference really?

Diablo 2, anyone?
I had so many characters that I even got a couple of complaints 'cos random people were getting asked if they were me.

It happens to many people. Keep each character in a separate file go back to each one whenever you feel the need to play said character. It's better than starting over again and again.

Well, I've been playing as a Templar/Reaver Warrior on DA2.
16 hours in and I still feel FUCKING AWESOME
Tremor always seems to fail though.

In practically EVERY game I play, I can never settle down with one save file, and always end up deleting it and starting over. This happens the most with RPG's.

The game which affects me the most is Minecraft. I always make a world, play for 10 minutes, then delete it and start again. ALL the time.

Yup, I played up to the end of the origins about 12 times and almost didn't want to play again

I would have this a lot if I could stand replaying portions of games. But I usually get really bored by that. I normally play through a game once (being a total completionist) and that's it. What I really like about games like Dragon Age though, is that you can basically play as all classes because you have your companions.

I also really like it if there is some kind of cheat or save game editor that allows me to change my character midway through the game, but it will probably take some time before that becomes available for DA2.

The first time I play a new RPG I always stick with my first character for the first game.

After that it gets hazy. At 1 point in Dragon Age: Origins I had:
A Female Dwarf Noble Warrior who used a sword and shield.
A Male Elf Mage.
A Female Human Warrior who used 2-handed weapons.
A Male Dwarf Commoner Rogue who used daggers.
A Male Dalish Elf Rogue Archer.
A Female City Elf Warrior who used 2-handed weapons.

All of which were between 3-9 hours into the game. I almost always experiance some burnout around "The Fade".

I had it worse with Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Even though the differences were usually pretty minimal I kept restarting because I wanted to play a different clan/gender.

I did about 10 hours on my mage, but then I got Varric as a support character. An elve that uses a 2H and turns bright blue, he runs around almost 1 shotting enemies, I loved the 2H tree so I made a warrior. Now my warrior has almost as much time spent on it as my mage.

Why don't you just play a lot of various characters. If I'm playing an RPG I usually have a few save files with different characters on each one that I switch between.

I mean, it gets boring playing the same character all that time, that's what the classes are there for after all, but that doesn't mean that you need to completely abandon a character just because you felt an itch to play a different class for a while.

Well, I started Pokemon white today as a male trainer with a Tepig. Now I want to be a femal trainer with whatever the water-type is.

Curse you, single save slot!

"errich position" Sounds kinky ;)

It helps when you aren't neurotic about these things.

I picked rogue as I tend to do. A female, even though I always choose males to relate better. But just because I loved how the default female looked and sounded like.

Then I play the game, stick with my decisions, be they not-the-best-possible-or-not and move on. And continue to not be neurotic about it. That would just ruin the experience.

I have a similar problem. I'm good at starting, not so great at finishing.
I end up with like six characters, all with painstakingly sculpted features, and not one of them is past the halfway point.

It's not until months later I come back to the game like "yeah I should probably finish that now".

Not so much in dragon age but in elder scrolls games I make 4 or 5 characters before I'm satisfied with one.
