Have these thoughts ever entered your head? Do you ever get sick of realising you need to get X to Y by doing Z? I sure do, I've been trying to beat Tales of Symphonia and Dark cloud 2 for awhile now, but I just can't do it, too many cryptic puzzles, and it's sad because I love the story, characters, and combat in both of them(Tales of symphonia more so though). It's just I can't stand having a puzzle every dungeon in TOS, when late-game, all your doing is dungeons, I've spent more time moving blocks and going up and down the same maps fighting the same monsters then I have enjoying the boss fights or advancing the plot. Dark Cloud 2 as well.

So escapists, what games make you cry like a little girl because of them wanting to test your knowledge of how blocks work?

I don't know any game that had puzzles that actually broke the gameplay. Then again the only puzzles in most games I play is the decision of headshot or knifing.

I too, enjoy a good puzzle game. Actually, I hate games that are mindless hackn'slash/shootemups. If I'm winning merely by buttonmashing then it's not really fun for me.

I don't have many for block puzzles specifically, but I remember the crematory in Silent Hill 3 took me hours to solve. I have no idea why, but I just kept drawing the placements of the beds in the wrong order anytime I tried to solve it on paper. lol

I didn't think TOS was that bad at puzzles. But i do agree that the games that have arbitrary puzzles seemingly inserted into the game to pad length make me dry heave.

When trying to find the "truth" in Assassins Creed II there was a few puzzles and times I went "WTF" and "OMG" and "comeon!" but my my Intelligence came through and I unlocked and beat all puzzles.

HA!

I hate how it went from Dessian puzzle, to Dark temple puzzle, its mainly just that I did three temples in a row now that my patience is wearing thin with the game.

Puzzles don't test your intelligence, not video game puzzles anyway :/.

I got really annoyed at the puzzles in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, because they were too simple and they didn't make any sense. One of those attributes is fine, but not both. For example, in the greeting card shop, do they seriously expect me to believe the load of crap that someone would deliberately put the clues to the door code in the cards, just for the forgetful employee dude? Someone easily could have bought those cards and ruined the puzzle. Or in the locker hallway in the school, those two football players just happened to be standing like that when whoever shot the picture? I'm sitting here, picking up mementos, and they throw this stuff at me? This game is supposed to be about the town and it's past, it's all supposed to fit together and work, that's the point of all the flashbacks you get, so why do puzzles that don't make any sense? I don't know, I ranted too long and I better stop now.

I don't think I've ever had that thought before, in fact I'm pretty sure no one has ever uttered the phrase "this game has too many puzzles" before you typed it here.

I only notice when puzzles are out of place, pathetically easy, or recycled. I guess I can see thinking "there are too many" if they are just the same thing over and over again.

RPGs seem to throw puzzles in at the worst times, like when its been fight after fight. As if I'm not going to look up the answer and get back to playing the game.

Sometimes. But I don't have that irritating point where normal people would put it down, I go straight from "this is kinda cool" to "This will not fucking beat me".

Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones had some pretty devious puzzles, requiring the use of online guides at points. I was in elementary school when I played it, though.
