This is how you do a retro-styled throwback

It doesn't get any more retro than this:
That's right, it's a dragon. A blocky dragon at that. In a world where jaggies are frowned upon, this is a like a breath of fresh air.

It's from the game 3D Dot Heroes. An unapologetically cliched RPG and it knows it. So, I ask you Escapists, what retro game would you like to see the same treatment?

Alternate Discussion Point:
Would you try this game out if it ever gets released in your area?

Interesting idea, but honestly if every model in the game was like that, it would seriously hurt my eyes after a while.

This is true. It looks cool, but I wouldn't be able to stare at a whole world rendered like that for more than ten minutes or so at a time.

I think that's genius, turning 8-bit into 3D. It's a refreshing new look in a world of games where everything is "realistic", bloody, and covered in a grey/brown filter. I would definitely give that game, or one like it, a try.

I thought that the whole point of "throwback gaming" was to maintain the spirit and the feel of the game while at the same time making it look just a little shinier than before.

The gallery at Destructoid even had side by side pictures of some of the characters. On one side is the original 8-bit version, and on the other is in the same style as the dragon seen above. The game's self-aware, so it pretty much guarantees a try for me (once I get a PS3), for the humor potential alone.
