Rockstar Presents: Table Tennis is a game about table tennis. Simple. There are no jokes - this is a game about table tennis; every character has deadly serious expressions, and it's clear that this is a game to be taken seriously (or course, this is about table tennis and made by Rockstar, so there's bound to be a sense or irony there...).

So, what other games have their main point being taken deadly seriously? I could imagine there are many RPGs - it doesn't all have to be sports games!

but i dont see how they hope to get Cars, drugs, satire and guns into Table Tennis, how is that possible? be some awesome stuff if they did.

i find the armoured Core series takes itself dead serious with its crazy storyline that goes nowhere, your a robot pilot that fights other robot pilots, its not that fucking complicated!.

To quote a famous man: 'There are no jokes - this is a game about table tennis'

Stick to AC3, makes the most sense of them all storywise...though you have to like AC2 too (hurr hurr), it took place on Mars, man, Mars! You don't even need a story if the game takes place on Mars!

Hmm, Metal Gear Solid always considers itself "srz bznz", even when the plot takes yet another bizarre and loopy twist, it never does so with anything but a straight face.

The Pokemon games. Apparently, catching them all is the single most important thing in the world.

That's the magic of it. I love the Armored Core series for exactly those reasons. I hate Gundam for being so tight and emo and angsty, and I hate Evangelion and Code Gaess and all that other garbage because they have to ruin it with anime tweens being so stupid and blind to the world and slitting their wrists when someone gets angry. Though that's just my opinion on it.

I find Armored Core to be the only series that has ever done mercenary mecha combat correctly. You go in, you fight, you come out, you get paid. I think that's as simple as it should get. There shouldn't be pages and filler arcs filled with nothing but drama and people whining about their problems.

I take it seriously. Totally seriously. And I wish people would take after Armored Core more.

That's not even the best part. Consider this: Pokemon revolves around kids capturing creatures with a wide variety of powers, ranging from laughably pointless to bending time/space and widespread destruction.

In other words, a bunch of kids getting the power to destroy the world.

In other words, standard Japanese media.

I'm a little off topic in that this doesn't have anything to do with games (unless university is a game to you?), but I thought this quote from Overheard at McGill might amuse you:

Guy on the phone, in a serious tone: "No, I totally understand you. This is serious, this is war. This is modern fucking war. You know what, we just have to put bacon bits everywhere."
