So I just sat down to start a new Far Cry 3 playthrough, and I discovered that after the latest patch my game gets stuck in an infinite loading screen before I even get to the start menu.
I Googled the problem and discovered it's an issue with the game contacting the uPlay servers and that you need to mess around with port forwarding or something to fix the issue.
Did I mention I'm playing this on the PS3?
Anyway, I decided to try disabling the internet on my console, and immediately the game loaded perfectly on the first try.
What. The. Actual. Fuck.
I didn't want to play Far Cry 3 online, I never have and I never will, I just wanted to play a single player offline game and because of Ubisoft demanding I connect to their servers to do that it fucked up my game.
Worse still, after visiting their forum, they expect ME to do workarounds with my router settings to fix THEIR problem.
Now imagine if we didn't have the luxury of being able to decide when to make our consoles offline, and you still don't see why leaving our fate in the laps of publishers is a bad idea?
I know I'm bringing sand to the beach for a lot of people with this, but this is my first experience, on a console, with the problems of the always-online future some people don't see a problem with.
Just because your internet is good, (and mine is,) that won't count for shit when there's an error on the publisher's servers and they don't bother to patch the damn thing.
