Elegantly stealthing around places, well placed take downs, perfectly timed dashes for the next bit of cover. I'm talking about DE:HR. I love that sorta stuff, I always played a stealthy person on Skyrim. I think I was an assassin in a previous life. But yeah, the thrill of the hunt, waiting for a target to get to a place where you can take them down. Yeah, that's what I like.

It really is awesome to hear so many positive things about gaming! I'm quite moved by some of the responses

I'd like to add to this list:


-Journeying with a stranger in Journey
-The first time you take down a Junk Titan in Infamous
-Landing one of Ganondorf's incredibly slow punches in SSBB, and knocking someone off the screen with it
-Some of the 30-second levels in Super Mario 3D Land
-The childlike feeling of glee when you use a brand new Skylander in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (probably not the most popular response, but it's a damn good game)
-The train level of Uncharted 2

There are many more, but they're the ones that immediately spring to mind Some of your responses have inspired me to go back and replay games that I'd shelved long ago, which is great. Thanks for all your responses to this thread so far!

When I've spend hours slogging through one of the great Final Fantasy games. I've spent hours learning about the characters, experiencing the world and taking out bad guys. I look at the final boss and think "I'm gonna kick your ass".

When I've stepped out the spaceship in Mass Effect after getting to know my crew, falling in love with Liara and telling her that I was fighting for her.

When I finished Silent Hill and had to sleep with the light on for 2 weeks.

When I've finished Portal 2 or Silent Hill again or whatever and I spend hours on the internet talking to my friends about the symbolism and the implications of the game. Untangling the character relationships and theorising all the different things that the game could possibly lead to.

The White Phosphorous section completely blew me away and brought me down to a level of self hatred that no game has done before. Never before has a game made me actually despise myself like that one scene did.

Spoiler: The Walking Dead: Episode 2

Trying to save Larry and then Kenny dropping a salt lick on his head while I was still giving him CPR. I was very in the moment during that scene and when that hunk of salt fell and Lee got splattered with the blood of a man that could have lived my jaw dropped and I jumped up from my seat in shock. It solidified that episode as one of my favorite gaming experience thus far.

Spoiler: Mass Effect 3

Not exactly a popular choice given the ending but I loved how the game pulled references non-stop from the prior 2 games and continuously gave me closure to events and characters prior. It felt like the game was tailored to my experiences and it was so incredibly gratifying when I got special treatment for doing all those quests from the previous iterations. If there was one thing ME3 did right it was fan service. Also, the Conrad Verner conversations had me in stitches.

That scene was amazing. Hand down, one of the most powerful scenes I've ever experienced in a video game. I think the interactivity made the consequences of your actions so much more powerful, much more so than in a film or a book. I felt genuinely uncomfortable for pretty much the entire game after that.

Spoiler: Also, slightly later in the game...

The scene when you arrive too late to save Lugo, and all you can do is watch while Adams futilely tries to revive him...That scene really filled me with self loathing, because I knew that I could've just turned around, or stopped playing, but I didn't, because I wanted to get to the end and unlock some pointless digital trophy....really powerful game.

I put that game on my shelf after playing it once. I may well never play it again, but I will never trade it in, because it's a testament to just how powerful video games can be.

Mass Effect: (Almost) Every moment of the series.

Halo: Playing through the entire campaign with my friend. (Not in one sitting. Tried that, didn't work out. After about hour 7 we were ready to kill each other.)

Persona 3 and 4: Do I need to explain? If you haven't played these games yet, than that explains the feeling of emptiness in your life. Solution: PLAY PERSONA 3!!!! ... AND 4!!!!!

Fire Emblem 7: Training Hector to a Lvl 20 (Lvl 20 Promoted) Great Lord, and watching as your enemies try kill him, while he just shrugs off their attacks.

Stalker SoC: Getting scared half to death of the Poltergeists. "Hey look, a floating chair. That's kind of neat. Sooo it's not doing anything for 5 minutes now, I guess it's har... OH WHAT THE HELL SON OF - STOP IT NO NONONO WHY ARE YOU!?"

Oh, I just started playing Killzone 3 and it reminded me of another one:

-That warm, fuzzy feeling of kinship you get when a group of people, without any pre-game communication, naturally come together as a team and work together to accomplish something. Say what you will about modern shooters, but I love that feeling

That great moment, in super smash (N64) when you and your opponent have 100+ damage, he smash attacks, misses, and you get him in a grab. Clutch.

Also, battlefield Vietnam, Co-op. The teams have equal human players. For a solid two hours, you've been caping points, killing Bots by the dozens, keeping the ticket counts close. In the last 10 minuets, you've got 74, they've got 50, and you have the majority flags. It looks like you've won.
Then they take a flag. You fight for it, but they hold. The ticket count evens out at 40 40, then to 30 20, and you lose the game 25 to 0. But you're not angry, because you had fun.

The difference, when playing Amnesia, between lights on/speakers and pitch dark/good headphones, and the horror that exceeds any movie experience.

Watching the credits, of any game when it ends. Statistically we don't play our games to their denouement and it's satisfying to know you've seen the creator's entire vision.

Waiting in the shadows and studying the patrol patterns in Thief, Manhunt, and Metal Gear Solid.

Seeing your name at the top of your team in Counter Strike or Team Fortress.

Hearing the famous and nostalgic jingles when opening a chest or solving a puzzle in any Zelda game.

Beating a boss solo in a Souls game, and the fuzzy feeling of helping new people using only signs, gestures, and being summoned.

Turning on the PS3 and seeing that I get some awesome games for free because of PS+

Our current generation has brought a lot of painful issues, and the constant internet connection has done much to bring them on, but I think the advancement in graphics, AI, jolly co-operation and competitiveness, and mechanics outweigh it all and I consider it all true evolution. Not since the ancient Egyptians has "Praise the Sun!" meant so much.
