Beating a boss solo in a Souls game, and the fuzzy feeling of helping new people using only signs, gestures, and being summoned.

Our current generation has brought a lot of painful issues, and the constant internet connection has done much to bring them on, but I think the advancement in graphics, AI, jolly co-operation and competitiveness, and mechanics outweigh it all and I consider it all true evolution. Not since the ancient Egyptians has "Praise the Sun!" meant so much.

The hardship makes the victory all the more satisfying, and even better when you see someone who's new to the experience, help them overcome a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, and give them a little bit of hope. Dark/Demons Souls are two of the finest examples of people working together in video games, not for personal gain (there are much easier ways to get souls/humanity than being summoned) but for the simple feeling of kinship, and the knowledge that you've helped someone overcome a challenge that you yourself have struggled to overcome many times before. Praise the Sun!

The entire expanse of the spider battle in Limbo.

Head shot in VATS with a scoped 44.

The entire ending sequence of GTA IV as well as the Four Leaf Clover mission.

Destroying the gigantic bridge in Red Faction Guerrilla with nothing but my hammer.

Building a city with friends in Minecraft.

And the beauty is that it's all organically within gameplay. From could have caved to the status quo and allowed voice chat all over the place, or let you type whatever you want for the soapstones and turn the ground into a chatroom, making the whole thing a half-assed MMO.

People want to help new people not for humanity (you could farm rats for that), but because you make a connection purely through gameplay and the mechanics involved. Journey was another example of this done so well. Hearing the bells bring from the clocktower meant that even if the gargoyles whooped you 10 times already, someone just beat them and you can too if you figure out what it took. Seeing other players turned to stone by basilisks is a warning of the dangers around without it being jammed in your face.

I'll stop, if I wank From software's work any further my wife might fear that I want to marry Miyazaki and dress as a black knight waiting in silence in front of a nice shiny ring : )

Bastion. Just... Bastion.
The ending and epilouge of Halo Reach. Halo got me into the FPS genre, so seeing the broken helmet in the green field, and that colony ship in the background, and that choir chanting the Reach theme and the violin adding a happy ending to the music... God in heaven.
The Quarian/Geth peace in ME3. It just feels so goddamm RIGHT.
Beating the shit of of Terumi in Blazblue. That was for Lambda, you bastard!

this is why I play video games, sheer epic moves like this. This is truly the best micro management game ever made. There are some clips 2:20 for example is pure skill. New games are a complete joke when it comes to myth, and I wish more of you would actually read this, buy the game for 10 dollars on ebay and join the 12 year old on-line community.

No other game has yet to pass the myth test. So many variables, so much blood and gore and real world battlefield scarring that does not fade away.


Enjoy, I love gaming for this reason, and I enjoy it more getting fresh new faces to our treasured game

Turning the world map my faction colour in a Total War game.

On a similar note, taking command of an inferior army and beating Napoleon himself.
I had more cannons though.

But winning with any outnumbered army, especially the time I "defeated" 2 armies with one unit of cavalry in Rome.

Spending ages on working out how to build something on Minecraft and it comes out perfect.
Finishing a puzzle game without needing hints.
Sniping an invisible Spy by guessing his location on TF2.

Taking down a bunch of thugs in Batman without taking a single hit yourself. And perfectly stealthing them without anyone spotting you.

Running around a town polymorphed into rabbits with my Psycho Bunny guildies during the last few days before Guild Wars 2 is released. We finally have an end to our guilds story, to be recorded in the Tome of the Rabid Rabbit.

We all became rabbits... and vanished into the Mists...

The elation I got after finally completing Super Mario Bros. 3 after 20 years of owning the game.

Laughing my head off when I was playing Eat Lead: The Story of Matt Hzard. Perfectly spoofing the shooter genre.

The goofy grin I had on my face whilst I was having just pure fun playing Mario Galaxy.

Playing Fallout 3's Broken Steel DLC & actually taking nealy half an hour or more to come to a decision about the dlc's ending. Same with Mass Effect 2's Overlord DLC.

Getting completely freaked out playing Condemned.

Most of all to be able to be drawn into these different worlds & become attacthed to all these characters and be able to escape into these virtual worlds and not have to worry about the trials, troubles and tribulations of the outside world.

The sheer and absolute joy I had at playing Portal 2.

Getting so immersed in the Fallout universe that I keep thinking I should collect bottlecaps and bobbypins when I see them in real life.

Being able to create a character and have them change their worlds. Being able to make a difference in a story.

Being able to have the bad-ass hero of the galaxy/wastelands/fantasy world etc be a woman instead of the default male like in most action movies.

The music. Fallout, Mass Effect, Portal, KOTOR, Silent Hill. Just too many too count.

A game moment bringing me to tears.

Beating Knights of the Old Republic, the first game I really played properly.

Slowly getting better in games as I play them.

Being able to have long talks with my brother as we're both video game nerds.

The end of Portal 2

Saving everyone and/or talking my way out of a situation in games.

The small details you find in Fallout. Little things that show just how much work was put into the project and the setting.

Winning a huge fight by the skin of your teeth.

Just so many things. The stories, the characters, the music, the setting. There's so much to enjoy. So yeah, that is why I play video games.

The satisfaction of beating the regular final boss in Cave Story (I still haven't beaten the hell level.)

Stopping to look at the view in Skyrim.

Just pausing the game and listening to the ambient music for a while. Not even gonna mention any specific games for this one because there are too many awesome soundtracks to count.

That moment when I thought that by choosing the Rachni Queen, I had condemned Grunt to death.

Persona 4 is the reason I play video games.

It proves that games can be more than senseless killing and can actually make you care about the world you've been shoved into.

When Aigis draws Labrys's attention to the beach pier, which was the last place she saw before she was encapsulated... and Labrys remembers she wished for future generations of the ASSW's to find happiness

It then clicked as to why Aigis went there, of all places, to find the P3 protagonist, and why she stood there staring at the sea. I knew it was a call back when I first saw it in Labrys's story but... man, that's just some brilliant writing right there.

Journey, especially the ending trek up the mountain. Especially if there's someone else with you. That almost made me cry.

Bastion, just the feeling and mood throughout that game was amazing. It had an intriguing story and several very emotional parts in it.

Beating a boss in ANY game with only several hitpoints left, and realizing your heart has been racing throughout the entire match.

Ornstein and Smough... Also fits into the previous category.

The endings to both Shadow of the Colossus and Ico.

In Amnesia the Dark Descent, when you want to die so you can finally take a break from the suspense.

Defeating Dark Falz on ultimate with my FOnewm and my brother's HUcast after many many defeats and over a year of playing the game.

There is undoubtfully many more, but those are ones that stick with me

I don't really get much satisfaction out of playing stories so i tend to get my kicks out of butchering people for messing with me. They thought they had a chance, they didn't, their mistake, my amusement
