Now I know I'm not the only one who feels surrounded by fools, but do you not get bothered when someone argues with your opinion and then claims their opinion is more valid? After all it's an opinion, it may have a factual basis but it's not a face, it's "your" opinion. Why do so many people feel the need to be superior, and why do so many people start a sentence with the phrase "by your logic". "By your logic" doesn't make your opinion or point any more valid, if anything it merely backs up the point that someone has a different view on a subject. Why internet? Why, I ask you? I left the IGN community to find some sort of intelligent community, but no, I've stumbled upon a replica. Self righteous, self proclaimed geniuses who love to piss and moan about other peoples opinion. Example being, I like EA. I dont like their marketing strategy but I'm thankful for the games the give me. So why does this cause so much ire? It's because the minority who only believe in their own worth just happen to be so damn loud, in my opinion.
And this is why we can't have nice things.
peace out people.

Are you mad because Jim Sterling is styling on you?

On a more serious note its JS his comments are ment to be inflametory and most of the time i don't agree with what he says. But the manor in which he says it i can appreciate and generally whilst having childish purile content at times, his overall message is portrayed clearly.

...Um.

I'm sorry you just kinda answered your own question there. Then seem to have a problem with it. It's their opinion. Of course my opinion is going to be better than yours, to me.

..Also, by your logic? It does sort of point out similarities of other ideas using your logic, and pointing out the flawed basis of it. It's pretentious, but so is saying "whilst."

And why do you get so much hate for liking EA? Because EA has bought many many franchises people love. And shit all over them. However EA as a whole is sort of ...large. It would be nigh impossible to hate everything they develop/publish. Their marketing is just terrible, their business practices are just stupid and revolting, and they seem to do everything they can to ruin childhood dreams. So liking them as a company is a slight bit..uh...awkward. Liking what they give you is different.

I kind of like Jim Stirling, he's growing on me =] But I dont have a problem with him, I was just using EA as an example because it's kind of relevant. Didn't mean to cause any confusion, my bad =]

It's not used to construct an argument, it's used to destroy a ridiculous one.

I'm not sure if your comment was fury or agreement =/ but yes i agree with your premise of my opinion conflicting with another opinion being contradictory, so like I said. This is why we can't have nice things =]
btw Thanks for keeping it clean, I hate pointless swearing =]

But it's irrelevant because it's an opinion. You cant destroy someones own idea of things. So trying to do so is "illogical". You see the point i'm trying to make?

I don't understand how this topic is related to games, seems more about opinions on the internet, and thus should probably be in the off topic section.

Moving on...

You are of course free to have an opinion, and if you so choose, you can state that opinion online, however if you do so, others are free (and probably will) try to change that opinion. If their arguments don't move you, then that's really where the conversation should end.

People will always feel they are right on a subject, but that doesn't mean their views are set in stone. More than once in this community, I've voiced an opinion and someone has quoted me with a counter opinion and I went "Oh you have a valid point there" and thus my knowledge of the world grew a little more.

Humans aren't rocks, they can be persuaded one way or not depending on the subject and individual.

You can quite easily destroy someone opinions, in fact depending on what it is it can be almost trivially easy. It's much harder to make them realise that you have, and for them to change their opinion accordingly.

I would like to see an example if you could? I'm not trying to argue, I'm just very certain of my opinions.

Everyone has their opinions. Some of those opinions, while still opinions, can also be wrong. As in factually wrong.

That's not to say whatever your opinions are are wrong, or that someone who has a wrong opinion should necessarily change it, or that someone who is incredibly smart never has a wrong opinion or that someone who is wrong about one thing isn't going to be correct about another.

Ultimately, "it's my opinion" does not free you from being challenged, because 1) that's not how the world works and 2) this is a place for discussion, not a place for stating opinions without opposition. If you want to see some extreme head-in-the-sand opinions (or a troll, hard to say really), go read some of the recently exiled Karutomaru's posts.

As for saying "I like EA", by itself doesn't really mean much. Only caring about how much you like the games they spit out is fine, really (though saying you're thankful for them is a bit silly). But there is a lot more to EA than just the games they publish / their subsidiary companies create, and saying you like EA makes it seem like you're okay/support/whatever their destructive business practices.

It's not an entirely clear divide between publisher and developer, but EA is a publisher. They have a greater influence on the companies they own, but they still aren't primarily responsible for making the games you like them for. I like The Simpsons and Seth McFarlane's offerings, but I wouldn't say I like FOX Broadcasting Company (and I certainly wouldn't say I like News Corporation) just because they fund some cartoons I like.
