[HEADING=1]This Month In Forums

August 2010[/HEADING]

Welcome to TIEM Magazine's August publication of This Month In Forums! Where Escapist users like you submit the best posts and users to be honored in our monthly publication.

This month we were blessed with a high rate of submissions, which made for more than a fair share of competition among posts and threads. After two months of nothing but the bare minimum, this last month has shown us that we have not been forgotten. On behalf of myself, and the rest of the TMIF Council: We thank you, the Escapist community, for your generosity this month, and hope that this trend of plentiful submissions continues.

This month we were also struck with a tie for two categories in Thread of the Month and Review of the Month.

The news about Bungie's implementation of a "Quit-ban" system in Halo: Reach has been met with mixed reactions from the gaming community. While a lot of people know about the issue itself, not many know the specifics.

Enter the Escpaist's very own Covenant Elite Vrex360, whom in the News Room thread "Halo:Reach Will Punish Quitters, Says Bungie [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.222925-Halo-Reach-Will-Punish-Quitters-Says-Bungie#7489527]" on August 2nd decided to clarify things a little more in

[HEADING=3]-Thread of the Month[/HEADING]
This month saw some very peculiar occurrences. Due to some troubles last month we had a thread carry over into the submission box for this month, as well as our first tie for an award.

====================================================================================================

On August the 23rd, TIEM's most recent interviewee and former communist Rocket Dog created a thread titled "ACTA is coming. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.227723-ACTA-is-coming?page=1]", in an attempt to bring to light one of the most asinine treaties ever to be conceived, showing how a majority of people on the internet will be guilty under the new treaty.

If you've been on the internet for more than a month you've probably seen OS-tans. Well on the 27th of August, our self-proclaimed "Teddy Queen", Demented Teddy, decided to create a thread titled "What if each forum was a person? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.228708-What-if-each-forum-was-a-person]", where she urged the community to stop, think, and stretch their imaginations; even if it was for a brief moment.

====================================================================================================

So congratulations to you Mr. Dog and Ms. Teddy for being the first users to share an award.

Just be sure you split it evenly down the middle.
[HEADING=3]-Review of the Month[/HEADING]
Review of the Month also saw a considerable amount of competition this month, with two reviews grabbing the title in a tie.

====================================================================================================

If one were to venture into the User Review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/326-User-Reviews] board of the forums, one would primarily find reviews about games, movies, and anime with the occasional music review sprinkled about. Well Spinozaad decided it to buck convention a slight on the 16th of August by reviewing "'A History of the Modern World. Tenth edition' [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.226126-Spinozaad-and-A-History-of-the-Modern-World-Tenth-edition-Review]". In his review Spinozaad shows us why the tenth edition is possibly one of the more unique history textbooks around.

Our fellow reviewer and contributor BlueInkAlchemist has carved himself a niche in the Review board with his sense of humor and his own style. On the 29th of August BlueInk went on to review what is possibly most discussed movie on the boards of Off-Topic at the moment, giving it his signature style and humor in his review "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World vs. The Blue Ink Alchemist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.228940-Scott-Pilgrim-vs-The-World-vs-The-Blue-Ink-Alchemist-Movie-Review]".

====================================================================================================

Once again, I would like to congratulate both Spinozaad and BlueInkAlchemist on sharing another of TIEM's awards.

[HEADING=3]-Poster of the Month[/HEADING]
While the fight for Thread and Review of the Month ended in a stalemate, Poster of the Month ended in with a clear and decisive victor after a long and bloody fight for votes from the Council. At the end of the day, Gildan Bladeborn won with a simple majority of the vote. His long [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.228124-penny-arcade-equates-used-games-to-piracy?page=4#7865900], coherent [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.229408-Obama-administration-Piracy-is-flat-unadulterated-theft?page=2#7951849], and often well pointed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.226030-Time-to-rage-again-Fan-made-trailers-hatred#7716092] posts.

Despite having competed against an equally worthy adversary, Gildan's work shined through to the council, allowing him to grasp the award for Poster of the Month.

August was good. Hopefully September will be just as good.

Remember folks, every submitted post/thread/review/user means a puppy/kitten somewhere gets saved!

Aww bummer. No The 8 ball segment. I was looking forward to that this time
I believe Iron Corgi may still be in need of some actual questions, so perhaps give him some material for his mind to probe, inquiry wise?

Congrats, winners. Great issue as always.

My contribution to RocketDog's thread is here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.227723.7841071].

EDIT: this is not meant as a self-nomination for an award, just my comment on the subject of one of the winning threads, FYI.

Then I better get posting to make up for all my masturbating lolcats viewing.

This publication seems somewhat legit. I better do something drastic to get recognized. Genocide? Basement tours? Who knows?

EDIT: Only 260 something views? Why does this not have more?

We're the most legit you can be while being illegitimate.

And the thread doesn't get enough views because it's stickied, meaning people just gloss right over it.

Unstickying as it is no longer August. ;)
The title means the best of August. The best of August gets stuck for September, just like the best of June got stuck for July.

It's just what Kuliani's been doing for this project since it officially began in May, we don't question the system.

Zombie_Fish: Clearing things up since 1993.

Oh yeah, good month. Sorry for not voting, kind of forgot about it and by the time I looked at your PM asking me for them, Timotei, it was too late anyway.

Yeah, that is always gonna happen. Especially when you have all the stickes and your bookmarked threads up the top.
