[HEADING=1]This Month In Forums

July 2010[/HEADING]

Welcome to TIEM Magazine's July publication of This Month In Forums! Where Escapist users like you submit the best posts and users to be honored in our monthly publication.

Once again TMIF had to endure the yet another dry month of submissions. Where last moth there was some competition between submission in all categories, this month saw a few with only one submission. Once again the vigilant eye of TMIF's Councilors was able to sustain us, but we warn that we cannot continue like this for long.

Last month there was some backlash from the community about the quality of our submissions. We here TIEM regret to say that this is the blame of nobody but the community as a whole. We here at the TMIF Council rely on you, the Escapist, to find and deliver us the best posts, threads, and users throughout the forums for consideration. If you think there are better posts in the boards than the ones exhibited in This Month In Forums, don't point it out to us. Submit it.

And now for something completely different... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49c-_YOkmMU]

Boredom threads.

They're often unproductive and contribute very little in the way of discussion. If a boredom thread doesn't sink because of a lack of responses, it almost always is locked because of its lack of discussion value to having been derailed to an extreme. This doesn't mean they are all bad. They can also be a good source of funny posts of an unconventional nature, such as this one [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.208095-Something-to-Do?page=2#7058857] made by [user]Lord Mountbatten Reborn[/user] on July 6th.

If you grew up with Cartoon Network in the 1990s, you probably fondly remember a lot of shows which not too many seem to decry. Whilst many simply shoo this off the rantings of those who peer through the rose-tinted spectacles of nostalgia, our very own 'Blue Eyes' [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Frank_Sinatra_] [footnote]For those of you not familiar with 40s-50s culture, "Blue Eyes" was a nickname for Frank Sinatra.[/footnote] decided to show us that sometimes the majority can be right. In his thread (plainly titled) Cartoons of the 90s [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.209746-Cartoons-of-the-90s] on July 8th, Sinatra reads to us the rise, fall, and unofficial death of one of our generation's best sources for entertainment.

[HEADING=3]-Review of the Month[/HEADING]
Pop Quiz: Do you know who Christopher Nolan is? Yes or No.

If you answered "No" to that question, don't feel bad, not too many other people know who he is either. While to some his name may be unknown, his work on the other hand, isn't. Having directed highly acclaimed films such as The Prestige, Batman Begins, Momento, and most recently The Dark Knight.

On the 13th of July, [user]Maet[/user] decided to do a countdown to his review of Inception [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.212531-Inception-Movie-Review-Christopher-Nolan-Retrospective], watching and doing a short review of each of Nolan's films in chronological order, all leading down to his final review of Inception. [footnote]Christopher Nolan is sharing a spot with Stanley Kubrick for one of my favorite directors.[/footnote]

Unfortunately a lot of people are not quite familiar with [user]Julianking93[/user] or his brand of brutal [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.221691-Overheard-Conversations-that-Anger-You?page=2#7454909], unforgiving [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.221392-Seriously-why-all-the-hate-on-3D?page=4#7445513], and often hilarious manner of posts; but I'm sure many of you are familiar with his Escapist-branded, overly-cute avatar of Ms. Sanada.

Still no idea who I mean yet?

Despite some of his posts being rather worthy of probation, Julianking struck a major chord among the TMIF council, winning out with an overwhelming 80% of the vote against a competitor who is no stranger to love the TMIF submission box.

This month was a fun month... I must've made around 600 posts through lack of games/interesting things to do save for a few bargain bin titles/Sonisphere.

That 'Overheard conversations that anger you?' post was freakin funny though...

I had to go away for a while and wasn't able to post or read much forum wise. I only recently got back into the Escapist community, and boy has it gotten complicated fast. I'm happy you guys do this so as people like me who are oft gone for long periods of time can quickly and easily get back into the flow of things. Plus, I feel it makes us a tighter, more well developed E-community on the whole. Good work, keep it up!

And here I forgot about TMIF... again.
Bad Zero!

So... good work as usual, and looking forward to seeing how this "8 Ball" thing works out.
Really hoping it's someone with strong, opinionated thoughts and well structured sentences, and not just somebody you know whom you decided to throw a bone to.

[sub]Hmm, 8 Ball part was longer than the part related to TMIF itself, must fix that... got it![/sub]
I am oddly loving this part the most though:
If you think there are better posts in the boards than the ones exhibited in This Month In Forums, don't point it out to us. Submit it.
I am doing the laughing (In my mind) when I think of somebody complaining about how he/she saw much better Threads, only to have it pointed out that he/she should have Submitted them.

Oh, and congrats to Julian for being the Poster Of the Month and all.

Yay! My thread got in. :D
I really love TIEM, and not just for the fact that I also subscribe to TIME, but that you guys help direct me to the best of the best each month.

Sorry for not giving TIEM the attention it deserved; unfortunately, I've been both extremely busy and in incredible pain. (Toothaches thanks to exposed nerves = JEB consuming mass amounts of alcohol)

I'd give it a kick start when I get enough people sending me questions. Something which nobody has bothered to do.

You can't start a party without guests.

Guess I'll give it a go then.

Start the party, leave when it gets too loud.

Oh, and seeing as you can count as "New" to the Forums, I feel obliged to use my greeting, feel free to ignore it if you wish.

Mannequins are good for that.

Not that I'd know...

OT: Well what we lacked in quantity we made up for with quality. More or less. Depending on that annoying little thing know as "opinion" and whatnot.
