Have you ever noticed that things in the gaming world can sometimes seem like that they're just combinations of other things?

I'm not talking about gameplay like 'Oh yeah, they totally ripped of DMC's fighting style for Ninja Gaiden'*, I'm talking about mixing characters and items together to make new ones.

For example, I've noticed that you'd get Zero from Mega Man X3 if you mixed together Mega Man and Dante. Mega Man has 1 blaster, Dante has two guns and a sword and Zero has two blasters and a sword. Not to mention the red robot thing.

So, have you noticed any similar things, or is it just me overthinking this?

*I do not believe Ninja Gaiden ripped off Devil May Cry. It was just an example.

It's a stupid thing to do. I mean you could go like.. yeah kratos is like prince of persia but then with a more DMC like combat.. or something... but after about 30 years of gaming industry it's hard to come up with total differen ideas.
And the character zero did exist before dante. but the basic psychology like a kick ass dude with attitude. make him red because mega man is blue (red and blue for gunstar heroes... ow w8 i'm doing it myself)and sure better well ripped than badly designed, but don't break your head overthis and just enjoy those games.

I reckon, if you took the Metroids, made them brown and parasitic like headcrabs, Then took Samus, made her a guy and then put him on Earth, you would get something pretty much like Halo.

That's my 2 cents.

If you took Tekken, made it about weapon fighting, made the women show more skin, and made the rack of 2 characters bigger every game, you would get Soul Calibur.

you have to remember that the video game industry, and for that matter the film industry, work on the basis that if something was successful, anything even remotely related must be as successful. This has lead to the most famous pitch sentence in history: "It's like X meets Y!" common examples include Wanted: "it's like Long Kiss Goodnight meets The Matrix!"
The matrix: "It's like Superman meets Buddah"
and the long kiss goodnight: "It's like The Bourne Identity meets Fatal Attraction"

games are no different
