I will start this off by saying a couple things.
1) This is NOT a MW2 love/hate thread
2) I am a 360er so i will try to stay unbiased when talking about PS3 games but no promises
3) I will make no mention of: Fighting games; racing games; sports games; motion control; PC games (sorry)
I will start at the begining of the season on a high note, Batman; Arkham Asylum.
Arkham was the rare kind of game. It tried so many things that have never really surpassed the level of mediocre and mushed them all into a very compelling game.
At its very core, it is a comic book beat-em-up
Historically, not a good combination.
Arkham throws in a bunch of things that were good kind of new though, for example, Batman fans will know that Arkham is a relatively unknown area that goes unexplored in the comics so they had a whole new area in a pre-established very expansive universe.
Due to its being a beat-em-up I must make mention of the combat.
The combat is, without a doubt, superb.
The hits flow, the button mashing feels meaningful and slick and all in all, the combat is the best in any game i have ever played.
The story is cool, the voice acting better than most games, the visuals compelling, the gadget sufficiently awesome and a good way to start the christmas pre-release.
Next on my list is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
OK, not the most spectacular event of the year, but UA2 delivers.
It is exactly what is advertised. Marvel Ultimate Alliance... only 2... so better. But not a lot.
Graphics are the same, controls no better, camera inoperable and so on and so forth but if you liked UA1, you should at least consider UA2
Wet
Let it be known that when I first played the Wet demo, I was all over it.
I was psyched and I could not wait for it to just be released.
Come september 15, I have my newly owned, preordered copy but before I throw it in, I check up on some review sites.
It got HORRENDOUS reviews. It appears I was the only person on Earth who liked the game just as much as the demo.
I guess I just didn't get tired of flinging myself off of walls in slow-mo
Halo 3: ODST
I really liked it but I know a lot of people didn't so I will make this short and not "ROFLMAOGETOFFMYLAWNLOL"
If you like Halo 3, you'll love ODST.
It is the Halo 3 multiplayer slapped on a brand spankin new Halo 1 throwback with a campaign that doesn't suck and a cool new multiplayer mode
It is Halo 3... but ODST so if you didn't like Halo you probably won't like ODST but if the price drops I would recommend it.
P.S. It is at heart just a glorified expansion pack so if you don't own Halo 3 and have never played it, I would advise getting ODST
Uncharted 2: Among thieves
I never played Uncharted 1 so I don't have a right to whine about the story but for a game that got 10.0 in GI, it was really un-impressive.
While I am a 360ite, I did play through the whole campaign, start to finish, and every little nuance and clever detail must have been a reference to the first game because i didn't get it.
I would not recommend it to anyone just because it is so sloppily overdone and unoriginal that you should just skip to the next title on the list
Speaking of lists, I am adding Uncharted 2 to the list containing GTA 4 and FIFA 09 of games that everyone loves but me
Borderlands
OK, I am going to write a full review of Borderlands so I won't make a big thing of it here.
I will just say, so far, Borderlands is by far the best game my Xbox has ever had the glorious honor to contain.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Yesterday, I picked up MW2 expecting CoD 4 only bigger and better.
I was disappointed on both accounts.
Due to networking issues, I haven't played online yet but what was so fantastic about CoD 4 was that it was good enough just as a single player game. MW2 has new guns, but if PC gaming has taught us anything, it is that MORE tech does not mean a better game. It just means more development cost and more whiners
MW2 is like Halo 3 in that if it gets a good score, it will not be because its campaign is good, It will be because of it's multiplayer.
CoD 4, Halo 3, R6V2, Gears 2. Games with mediocre to good campaigns that hit gold on the online front.
MW2 doesn't have what it takes to play with the big boys. I will wait for L4D2
To come we still have L4D2, Dead rising 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Assassins creed 2, probably some other 2's, and then next year, Game #3 and dante's inferno. Oh also Bioshock 2
Overall, decent season so far but come on, there is so much potential. Use it
