I'd call it discrimination and noise pollution. I'd call it dealing with a symptom rather than dealing with a problem. I'd call it forgetting that all those teenage thugs will get jobs and become future customers. I'd call it not listening to police and public transport officials who agree that it's plain old stupid and unnecessary.

I'd call it a couple of twats who forget that they were young once, believe that age and ownership gives them the right to treat others as second-class citizens, and can't be arsed to think of friendlier solutions to the issues.

Finally, I'd call it pissing of a group that have shown themselves prone to violence and inviting retribution.

My math teacher from a couple years ago was in his mid 40's and was mostly deaf, and he could hear these. Kids would use the mosquito ringtone instead of just putting their phones on vibrate, and he would always be able to tell when someone's phone went off.

This doesn't really bother me. I just wish they would create a device to disrupt or negate the loud bass that seems so prominent in society. I might be in a minority on this, and I admit that I was young and naive at one point, but these days I just find it annoying and noise polluting. In my opinion, they are on the same level as the bikers in South Park.

Until then I secretly wish for the fad to end, or gas to become too expensive so they can't mobilize their noise machines. Either way I'd be happy.

Since when is teens going to malls a bad thing? Some people like to, uhhhh... SHOP at a mall as opposed to running around to many different stores and wasting gas. If the teens vandalise the place or something, certainly that would best be avoided, but isn't that what mall security is for?

Ive heard of this before, though it was harnessed as a ringtone for teenagers so they could use their cell phones in schools without getting caught.

Interesting to see the technology used for good as much as evil.

As for my opinion, I don't think it should be illegal, but it certainly is a stupid idea- they're driving away potential customers.
The subway thing, on the other hand, sounds like straight age discrimination; basically saying that all teens that use the subway are criminals that are going to steal something.

Well, if this is not illegal then I see no reason why me blasting a stereo at 3am would be illegal. To me its plain and simple noise pollution.
Plus if the sound extends out into public places then it should definitely be illegal.

But yeah, its kinda fucking stupid. Yes, teens in malls annoy me but any business that would use those is fucking retarded. They are basically torpedoing their business.
Oh and I have taken those online hearing frequency tests to see if this shit would bug me. I am 26 yet am still effected by ones designed for teenagers.

Edit: Just another thought. The ones I tried actually ended up giving me a headache after only like 30 seconds. So since these can actually inflict pain upon people should any business who owns them not be charged with assault?

Excellent idea, if I go some where they use one of these things and they do not turn it off when I ask. I can sue them and have them charged with assault.

PSH, illegal? I think not. If you're under 18 you don't have rights yet anyways. Bahahahaha. Minors have rights, basic human rights (life, liberty, pursuit of fleeting trends)...legal rights like privacy? Nah. At a young age, you have to earn some rights by proving you can be a decent human being.

Sure you have to earn some rights. When you turn 18/21 some rights come magicly to you regardless if you are a worthless douchebag or a genius college student. Also this stuff varies from person to person and therefore is no valid way to block out minors since it affects a good bunch of majors too.

I agree with you there King_Burger, there are definitely some minors I feel deserve more rights than some of the people I went to college with. Part of what sets them apart is they contribute to their families or communities. I just don't see the work ethic in the kids hanging around the mall (or in the case of my community, The Wal-Mart) day after day. Judging by your response, you contribute. Thanks
