This time I'm going to do it!

This time, I'm really going to catch 'em all! That's right, all 251 pokemon!

My last attempt several years ago ended in tragedy as I accidentally deleted my save when resetting the clock for some stupid reason like trying to win the Lucky Number Show or something.

It's going to be all legit, except for Celebi and Mew of course. Then I'll entrap them forever in Pokemon Stadium 2 like some sort of horrible villain. Never using them, or letting them out, just... having them.

Anybody else ever caught 'em all?

I think I got to about 130ish in the original R/B and never got further. Kinda got bored afterwards.

I got like 145+ when I was a kid, but since then I've never really went for all of them cause of all the stupid BS you gotta do to get them all. If they ever release a pokemon game where you can get all of them, by yourself, without trading or going to special event or the stupid crap they sometime pull where you have to wait week irl for pokemon to show up, then I'll be interested, until then I just don't have anymore passion for pokemon, it's the same things everytime.

I hacked them all the way up to the 6th generation. This was when they got fucking stupid with their event Pokemon, with some like Jirachi and Deoxys not being available for almost a decade. So I said screw it and started hacking them all. I did go legit with Gen 7, mostly because hacking was completely removed unless you put custom software on your 3DS and I'm not good with a soldering gun. But to give them credit, they got a lot better and more aware of event and exclusive legendaries. Seeing as Sun and Moon give you multiple legendaries for easy trading.

How much time and effort is required on average to catch just one?

I mean it really varies. You can catch a rattata within 10 minutes of starting the game, and it'll only take you a minute or two to actually catch it. If you want to get both of the fossil pokemon you need to go like 3/4 of the way through Red, Blue, or Yellow twice because you only get one per playthrough. That would probably take 5 hours or so each playthrough. I'm going to use the dodrio mode on the gameboy tower of Pokemon Stadium 2 for that, which lets me play at 4 times speed which is not cheating, it's an officially licensed Pokemon product!

I'll probably just use dodrio mode for doing really tedious stuff like getting a lucky egg, leveling up pokemon to evolution, and full playthroughs that are required for a couple additional items... I mean, I will once I finish unlocking it for G/S/C. The fricking gym leaders are so tough in Round 2.

I realize you want specific examples from Sun and Moon, but I haven't played it in so long cause well, it is bad. I did buy Ultra Moon, but I was expecting it to not be just regular Moon, almost verbatim.

I realize you want specific examples from Sun and Moon, but I haven't played it in so long cause well, it is bad. I did buy Ultra Moon, but I was expecting it to not be just regular Moon, almost verbatim.

The game does railroad you more than past games for sure. Sun & Moon is the pokemon game that gave me losses though so I appreciate that. The others I would breeze through, telling me where to go and railroading be damned. Plus I really like that mantine surfing minigame to get TMs :3.

Honestly you really shouldn't listen to him, the fact that Sun and Moon did away with HM's makes it a huge step forward in my book. It gives up the illusion of freedom in exchange for giving you more characterization in the "gym leaders". Yes there are things that can be improved but I say as someone that lost interest in the series after Diamond and Pearl that it did a lot to make me interested again.

As for Oak, at first I thought he actually showed up in this game but it's actually his cousin. So yes, Oak is still relevant for the series in some ways.
