Could someone explain to me while a good chunk of Europe and the rest of the world have already seen the release of this movie, but the US has to wait until 8th of November? What exactly is the point of this? Is it to avoid releasing on the same week as another big budget movie, or what?

Man, sure sucks when the US gets something after everyone else huh?

Welcome to Europe, in the 90's and 2000's

As for why? I don't know why, I didn't know why it took so long for shit to come back then too.

Back before digital distribution of films to cinemas, there where a limited number of film prints to get sent to cinemas.

They did it with the first Thor film as well. My best guess (aside from a portion of the film happening in the UK) is because Europe is generally more forgiving of odd action films (see John Carter, which got ok reviews and an ok box office outside the UK).

For the record, I've just seen it, and its great.

I'm in Argentina and I'm watching it tomorrow even though I don't like Thor, Bro Superhero. It seems weird the US isn't getting it first.

I am just taking a guess here but is it because of halloween? I know that it's a big deal in the US but for us here in europe it isn't. Maybe they did not want to relase the movie in the same week that everyone would be spending their money on booze and costumes.

Edit: FYI the movie is epic. Way better than Iron Man 3. I saw it on release day over here (England 30th Nov).

Probably to avoid a clash of releases, either that or because the American film market just isn't worth as much as it was?

I don't think there was any other release that could've rivaled Thor's last week?

Couldn't say guvnah.

In all honesty it could be something as pedestrian as the production being based in Europe and this being the logical place to start distribution.

It's getting to Argentina before the US though.
All I can think of is the distributors wanted to clear Halloween out of the way.

I saw it last friday at México's premiere :D as for why the early dates, I guess is probably to fight piracy, in México there's a lot of places (right on the street, not even "hidden" and buying this kind of product is still a normal issue) where pirate movies cost less than 1 dollar while going to the movie is around 5 dollars (not 3D) per ticket

Awwww, poor America isn't the first region to see a movie?

Let me play a song on the world's smallest violin.

In all seriousness, I believe its due to the film creators not wanting to release it on Halloween.

Just saw the movie. I was never a big fan of Thor or Loki (I've threaded about this before) but this time around the movie's pretty good. Not revolutionary by any means but good old superhero fun well awaaaaaaay from the 9/11 terrorist plot, fucking finally. The movie's considerably heavier on fantasy and science fiction than the first, which I think is pretty healthy. Prologue scene is disturbingly similar to Fellowship of the Ring's though. And Asgard looks a little bit too much like Naboo, especially when it's under attack, Lucasfilm takes care of the sound effects and Natalie "Padme" Portman is running around in princess garb.

Stick around for two post-credits scenes this time.

Part of me is kinda glad, because the US tends to get things released well before other countries all the time, then the spoilers are way harder to avoid. You basically have to avoid huge parts of the internet, just something I've noticed. Most other countries get most things later then yours, so deal with it like we have for years/decades I guess? Not like it happens all the time in the states, so don't worry. There's stuff you guys have had for years that I still can't buy in my country, yet have been shown on TV, like the Justice League Animated series box sets for example. As for the film, I liked it :D It will be worth the wait.
