They bother me... I mean, I have them on for a reason, I want to be notified, but is there a specific reason that there has to be a new messages sent for EVERY new chat message? Are there any other ways that it could be done without sending an individual message for every new chat message? Possibly something like this but for groups, and it notifies you how many new chat messages there are and news updates?
I don't know. I'm just thinking up any way to solve this. The way I'm being notified is... Bothersome. I get all OCD and have to read every one of my new messages when I log on. The amount of messages when I log in is often in huge numbers and I can't bring myself to just ignore it.
I don't participate in chats often, but it's still nice to be notified of recent chat activity and read conversations. Just not for EVERY POST. Having ONE post to tell me "there are new chat messages!" is fine, not 50 individual messages if there was some event or something that causes people to post in the chat a lot.
I'd like it if you get sent one message for new chat messages and not get sent any more. If there's a new chat message, let the original message just be bumped as unread and it will appear in the inbox as a notification but not as a new message...
