Inspired by the thread about character interpretations you don't like, I thought I'd do a thread for those villains that we absolutely love. Bad guys so over the top, so devious, so damn cool, whatever it might be, but you love them to death. Well here's their moment to get some love. Here's mine off the top of my head, in no particular order.

1. Gary Oldman's cop in The Professional. My god he was so wonderfully creepy in that movie. So insane that even his henchmen were afraid of him. "I love these little calm moments, before the storm." Gary went into every scene, famished, and left stuffed to the gills, he chewed on so much scenery. Loved it.

2. Speaking of chewing the scenery, Dracula from Van Helsing. Oh this guy was so gloriously over dramatic, and reveling in how EEEEvil he was. I found myself giggling uncontrollably whenever he was on screen.

3. The Inquisitor from Babylon 5 episode - "Comes the Inquisitor". Oh my god this guy, he was so great, so quiet, so controlled, so softly menacing and intimidating, and all the while being completely polite and gentlemanly. He's a huge mystery given why he's there, and who sent him, and by the end, when you learn what his possible identity is, it makes things even more creepy and bizarre. If you haven't watched this show yet....well what the hells wrong with you?!? And if you have, you know how wonderful this guy was.

4. Nichodemus - The Dresden Files. This is the supernatural version of the smooth criminal Bond villain for the Dresden-verse. He's cool, cultured, refined, and happy to eat breakfast while someone guts you like a strung up pig, all the while casually conversing with you.

5. There was another one, but I can't remember them now. Anyway, that's my list of favorite bad guys, and why, what are yours?

Oh man, The Comedian from Watchmen, definitely. Jeffrey Dean Morgan totally nailed him in the film too, he's the perfect grizzled badass. Sure, he does a whole ton of despicable stuff, but he's actually a lot more insightful than most of the other characters and he's just too cool. The scene with him and Night Owl II suppressing riots in New York is just awesome.

Dr Doom is one of my favourite bad guys and I don't know why. Maybe it's because everything about him doesn't make sense when apply in real world logic (he a monarch of a country he owned and yet he still does around doing villainy stuff at times, it will be like if Kim Joung Un had super powers!) and also despite some class he has, he still speak in third person (is using the royal voice a real thing?)!

The original Davros...he'd be saying really, really horrible things, but make them sound so reasonable.

Azula from avatar was pretty cool. She had that psychotic nature that was never really fully shown until the very end and was ridiculously devious from the get go. That and she had no other character arc other than to go insane.

I thought it was because he was angry at the world, for being a outcast. He was deformed from his own experiments was he not? And tried to find a cure to his disfigurement, but since no cure was to be found, he became embittered and since misery loves company, he decided to try and dominate the world. ( the mad scientist archetype i suppose) I know nothing of comics though, and the only reason i know that is listening to MF Doom.

On topic:

I cant really think of any cool villains. All the ones i think of seem very stereotypical. That being said, from recent memory, Caius Ballad from FF13-2 was cool and interesting to me. When i think of antiheroes, their motivations are so weird or unbelievable, like wanting to take over the world, which makes no sense unless your crazy. Caius just wanted to save a girl's life, and the only way he could do that is by fighting Lighting and friends.

Plus: his character design is cool, although a bit emo.

Doctor Doom.

He's hammy. Super hammy. We're talking "banned by Jews and Muslims" hammy. And it works. He makes it work.

How about one that sings? (Sweeney Todd)

Walking art and class? (Genkutsuou, The Count of Monte Cristo)

Evil incarnate? (Al Pacino, Devil's Advocate)

Straight-faced? (Hugo Weaving, ANYWHERE)

Lovable rogue? (Lupin The 3rd)

Philophical? (Legato Bluesummers, Trigun)

Cultured? (Any role performed by David Warner, Tony Jay, or the main cast of Legacy of Kain)

Madness? (Any Joker, but Mark Hamill's is the best, aaand Deadpool)

Lastly, I'll just leave this here...

Hazama from BlazBlue, I doubt there is any better villain. He consistently destroys other members of the cast even in their own routes, he even turned Tsubaki on her best friend over the course of one conversation because she was reporting to him as he started to get bored. He's basically a Japanese take on the Joker, if less chaotic. He'll walk in at random, make a massive mess of the scene then disappear again. His power level is miles above everyone else's.

His voice acting is good too, even better since a lot of his greatness comes from how he manages to talk people down.

I'll bring this up because i'm currently playing it for the first time but Devil in G-String's Maou is shaping up to be a super awesome villain. I'll skip over the details because I refuse to spoil a massive plot twist early on, a plot twist so good i'm genuinely placing it as the best plot twist I have ever seen ever. Including Sharin no Kuni's plot twist, I think Akabei Soft2's strong point is genuinely mind blowing plot twists.

Basically the way the game presents itself is as a mystery story about catching a super intelligent criminal known only as Maou. Thing is, it focuses more on Maou's (Maou is just an alias, his identity is unknown) perspective so instead of watching a detective chase a villain you're more watching a villain having fun throwing "can't catch me lol" taunts at the chasing "detective" I say detective but it's just a weird girl with a massive grudge against Maou who's good at deductive reasoning. Maou's genius is keeping the police away from his plots entirely so that's the extent of his enemy. No murders either funnily enough, Maou seems above that and he once says how hard it is to keep a dead body hidden and have no attachment to him. For once a villain not so far up his own ass as to challenge the police because he's so sure he's so clever.

That and bringing an end to time itself.....

Liam O'Brian was a great choice for him considering he always sounds like he's super depressed.

Solidus Snake from MGS2.

Because he was totally right in doing what he wants to do.
