Those goddammit moments

Ever had one of those times in a game where you feel like you've just made a big accomplishment, and then something strolls in and fucks it up as soon as you were done?

I just had one. I got Mass Effect 2 recently, and I just completed Miranda's loyalty mission. I was happy, got her new uniform, everything is fine.

Then, I get back to the ship, and Miranda and Jack's fight breaks out. I wanted to end it, but my paragon and renegade levels weren't high enough. I was romancing Jack, so I lost Miranda's loyalty the minute I got it. God fucking dammit.

Anyways, that's my story, what are some goddammit moments for you?

Why the hell were you romancing Jack?

OT: For some reason this one sticks in my head. In Brutal Legend I was going for the "Boar Bather" achievement, but I didn't realize you had to beat the game first. I caught a razorfire boar, drove it all the way to the sea of black tears, and was instakilled by a trap. What a waste of time.

Only thing I could remember is, in Fallout 3, I beat my first Deathclaw. Reveled in victory, then, got butchered by a yao guai. :O. I stood there frozen in defeat.

Heh, yeah that exact thing happened to me as well. Why would they decided to do that right after getting Miranda on your side. I sided with Jack more because i thought pissing off a lunatic with godlike powers on a space ship was a bad idea.

I was playing ESPN NFL 2K5, and was in the middle of a great game as the Ravens against the Falcons. We were just going back and forth all game, trading touchdowns. It was late in the forth quarter, and we had been in a scoring standstill since the beginning of the quarter. I finally pushed across the goal line to tie it up. On the ensuing kickoff, their return man got some lucky blocks and ran it back all the way to the endzone.

I was not able to come back and lost 35 - 28.

I did it before the end of the game... I'm not sure what would've given you troubles...

The paragon romance for her ends with a very satisfying and touching conclusion.

Plus, she's hawt.

OT: It's the simple cliché one. Gotten far into a game without having saved for a while, then the PS3 decides to die.

Beating the Final set of bosses (yeah those 4 stages of bosses) in FFVIII, then I have an electricity blackout in the middle of the ending cut-scene.

Simple. PvPing in WoW, getting an opponent down to 1hp, literally, then dying.

Spoiler: Spoiler'd for anyone who cares for whatever reason

Before the last mission there's a bridge all the way across the sea of black tears, and you're instakilled whenever you try to drive on to it. During the last mission the bridge is destroyed, and to get the achievement you have to ramp the boar off of that and jump off at the last second so you can survive. I was under the impression that that was the only way to get the achievement.
