You'll find that genuine Yankee-haters are difficult to come by. Yank-bashing as a joke is a very European thing to do, but given the context that we're talking about, none of it is serious.

That's refreshing to hear, then we aren't so different after all. At least from what I've seen in my part of America, I certainly don't represent America, nor does Massachusetts... That's probably a good thing we are called Massholes for a reason...

The wig-wearing thing could relate to officers, but I don't think regular soldier wore them. It seems a weird point though as I think some of the American hierarchy wore wigs too (I know George Washington didn't).

The choice of red for the red-coats may seem weird, but it was chosen at a time when musket smoke obscured most battlefields and dyes tended to fade in colour...

By the way, redcoat soldiers didn't wear white wigs. The hair was grown long, queued and powdered white. It was done just to look neat and impressive, but it was a haven for lice, which is why officers shaved their heads and bought wigs to wear, so they could take them off to wash them.

The choice of red cloth stems back to the formation of the New Model Army in 1645 during our Civil War, because red dye was pretty cheap compared to other colours.


OT: I'm not really too bothered what Americans think of us, it would be impossible to try and conquer every misconception about every country, so there's little point in getting worked up over it, you can't really beat stupidity.

We don't hate America at all, we do get a little tired of americans thinking that america is the centre of the universe though (which often makes you guys the butt of jokes). Though thats understandable I guess when you have to large oceans either side.

It shocks on a daily basis how many American's actually think we are the center of the world that I encounter... I find it odd considering the social and economic situation most of the US is in.

I positively adore Americans, and it really makes me annoyed when i see a trolling Brit say foolish things about America on youtube. Its just as offensive as reading it the other way around. As for crude Americans, yeah there's a lot of vocal ones but most I actually know are genuinely nice people and not at all different (except religion, avoid religion around Americans, be they atheist or theist it's just a warzone). It's just that the douches are extremely vocal. Same for us, the worst are always the loudest.

First of all, no, we do not all think that way. Well, some of us do, but they're morons.
Secondly, you really can't say "what do Americans think about X?". There are 300 million of us, and we don't all get together every morning and decide on what our collective beliefs are. There are some people on all sides of the issue, and any sweeping generalizations are completely incorrect.
