i would just like to say, the English stereotype is very linear.

most English people are straight up normal people. not wig's and monocles and top hats, thats just the rich ones.

its such a shame that the American media represents us in such a light.

its similar over here though, although not as bad, because a lot of our TV is American, but American's get shown as hill billies too often, trash talking, incest driven folk that live in shacks. but we know this isnt the case (or most of us do).

Nah, you've forgotten the entire eastern and western seaboards. Californians sound like stereotypical surfers, while the northeast is full of all sorts of obnoxious variants on the same root accent. You've got your New York accent, Boston, Jersey, Maine (Lobstah)... Plenty of variations in there. Oh, and don't forget Cajun down in Louisiana.

To be honest, I think the reason that Britons and Americans don't like each other very much is because of how America came in to being. Which was basically the two nations killing each other for a while until Britain decided they'd had enough and just went back home, and I think there is a kind of subconcious feeling of resentment in there from both parties.

Well, I haven't considered myself an American for a while now but as an ex-American, I find England to be a beautiful country. I find your average English person to be more tolerable than your average American person. One of my best friend's is British and we've been friends for years. Sure, he's slightly egotistical sometimes but that's just him. You can't base the entirety of a people on one single encounter. Especially if that encounter is on Youtube.

People like the one you quoted in your OP is the reason why I hated calling myself an American since it seems like America has bad PR with the rest of the world.

Here, lemme give you the skinny.

I like England, overall. You've a great form of human, you gave us Doctor Who and Blake's 7, The Beatles and Queen, and so much more. I want to go over there at some point in my life. (Alright, I want to go to ALOT of places, but that's one of them.)

The thing about England is that my dad, much as he irritates me sometimes, tends to be right about some of his rants. We're Irish here and we know that England and Ireland have quite a history. I'm willing to do the bygones routine myself, but it's always true that there will be people within a nation who are crap. That is why there are opinionated Americans, and that's why there will be opinionated people all around the world.

To the OP - As others have said already, it's a YouTube comment. I'd say take it as a grain of salt, but even that is giving it more leverage than it's worth. YouTube comments are about as worthless as Fox News.

Tbh, i think adding the u to such words makes them sound more accurate. I read Color and it could be pronounced the same way as "coller", or if you decide to put emphasis on the o, coloor, which sounds stupid. Colour, which the u just sounds more correct on paper.

Add them? we didn't have standardised spellings until 1755 when Dr Johnson released his dictionary in Britain, Webster (who removed the 'u's and such) released his in 1806/25.

really depends on the indivduals I'm from canada and I know people who went to the states for school and came back just because of the prejudice against them got to be not worth the effort any longer.

Lets be honest, no one really likes the French. They helped us out pretty extensively during our bid for independence and gave us one of our most enduring symbols as a country (Statue of Liberty) and we helped liberate them from Nazi occupation and we still don't really like each other.

In all fairness I spent a day in France with my mom and everyone was extremely nice despite the fact that I don't speak a word of french and my mom was going off of two years she'd learned in high school.

Actually, most Brits quite like the Germans (well, ignoring the skinhead types who run around chanting "Two World Wars and One World Cup!"), and tend to not hold grudges (and also recognise that the Nazis did not represent the majority of Germans, nor the German troops).

The French, however, present a special case. The French don't like us much, and we don't like the French much . If I remember correctly, England and France have been to war against each other more times than all the conflicts between all the other nations of the globe added together. That's quite a legacy to have behind you, particularly when you sit down and try to negotiate deals about international European farming subsidies *grumble*.
