The recent articles on the escapist have made me question myself when it comes to Legend of Zelda's wanna be fairy Tingle. firstly this character has always upset me on a base level, hes a grown man in his 40's living at home dresses in green tights and talks about wanting to be a fairy. That image seems wrong to me. Perhaps its the fact that he is essentially wishing he was Peter Pan never wanting to grow up, and give up his child hood dreams. Peter Pan has the saddest most moving story of all children's tales, and tingle is the bastardized version.

Now the articles in this weeks escapist update mention that tingle may be a homosexual. i began to wonder if maybe thats what was so unsettling to me about this character, and as i began to pick it apart in my mind, i wondered if perhaps he wasn't gay but mentally challenged (still a touchy subject). Well I'm officially confused, is my loathing for Tingle a deep set homophobia unknown to me before this thing cam along and over charged me for a map? Perhaps he upsets me because he stands for a beloved piece of my child hood drug behind Epona for endless miles around a Perpetual Hyrulian sunset? And is it even okay to hate tingle so much, maybe he just has a learning disability and is in fact a perpetual child?

I am incredibly confused. I still don't like Tingle, a forty or so year old man who wants to spend his days prancing around a field with twelve year old boys pretending he's a fairy certainly is not normal. but should he pitied as a handicapped man, shunned as a pedophile, accepted as a homosexual, or loathed as an abomination... your thoughts?

I think he's a hilariously unique character that wouldn't fit into any other game

No hating Tingle doesn't make you homophobic. He's just unsettling like that.

edit: Oh and welcome to The Escapist.
